Periods - when did they straighten out?
Right after I had WLS, my Ob/Gyn put me on Provera for a short dose to jump start my period as it had been a long time without one. I had been on the bc shot prior to surgery but hadn't been on one for over a year and still no period. That was in July of last year, and since then, my periods had been regular, although very heavy.
In March, I had my last normal period and since then, my body has been all screwed up. No period until a week or so ago, which was very, very light and very abnormal, and I've been having other related hormonal issues. My doc checked my hormones and everything is fine, as is my PAP, etc. So, I'm back on a short dose of Provera to jump-start my period again...
Everyone is different, often times, the weightloss will regulate your period, but if it's still being weird, you should probably talk to your Ob/Gyn just to be safe.
Hey Vickie,
A lot of us are still working on it. For some reason it never occured to me that the surgery would affect my cycle this way; so me and my doc are still working to see what formula will work best for me. So far using two types of pills are doing the trick, if I can take them at the same time. Good luck.

Well, at 3 1/2 years Post-Op, mine are still a hit and miss, doesnt follow ANY kind of schedule, even gone 3 or 4 months with nothing more then the PMS-ing - all mood swings, the desire and probably the ability (although Ive yet to test that theory) eat anything in the house that's not moving, including the two felines! lol, you've gotta feel sorry for the hubby, I may get the 'monthly cycle' break, but he never avoids the monthly MOOD-swings!
Sooooooooooooo - if mine EVER regulate itself, I'll hollar back'atcha!
Oh, one more thing that I should probably mention? Im on the maturer side of the age scale, flirting hot and heavy with 50 (just turned 46) and rumor has it [gulp] ...I could be dealing with Pre-M! lol, eeeek, can't even say the word!

Hellllloooooo Nurse!
Yannow - the down side of being able to update our own MB board pics is we all do it so often and are changing so much that I never recognize anyone anymore.... You look fabulous, darling, as always, but I didn't realize it was you!
I'm the same way as you, missed mine for 3 months, but had the mood swings anyway - that's no fair! If I'm going to get a reprieve, it should be a FULL reprieve!

and then there are those of us who never missed a beat.....it is alot like the loosing hair question. Mine was coming out by the handfulls and kept coming out until just recently.....other people have not lost one hair. But make sure you ask your doctor because being on the pill it seems as if you would still have them as you did before. I haven't heard but is the pill absorbed the same way as it used to be????
Your body is off kilter due to the sudden release of hormones back into your body.
What your doc needs to do (which is what I had too...) is put you on Yasmin pills. You must take 1 pack for a week (3 pills a day moring, noon and afternoon) and then take one pack for the 21 days. This should thicken up your uterine wall and stop the bleeding.
I bleed for 9 months and I was on Depo. I did Depo and the pill for the first month and then I just stayed on the pill and never got another Depo shot... I have been fine...
Yasmin also makes your bleeding extremely light and reduces cramps to basically nothing...
Good Luck-
Valerie
