I need info
Hi, I am 5 years post-op. I had an open DS, my presurgery weight was near 480 lbs. I know weigh 190lbs. I starting having horrible nausua problems about 1 year ago that ended up with 40 days in the hospital from malnutrition because I could not hold anything down. They finally ran a food follow-thru test that had me eat radioactive eggs and toast and it timed how long it stayed in my stomach. After 3 hours they stopped the test and I was hurry to surgery to convert my DS to the RYN. Fortunately after surgery the doc said he did not need to do a revision because there was a large a mount of scar tissue he reomoved plus my colon was on top of my stomach? Anyway I am now 2 months out of this surgery. I was down to 165 but after 6 weeks of feeding through a J-tube I have gained some weight back. I am still very nasuous and since I no longer have the feeding tube ( I accidently pulled it out in my sleep one night). I struggle daily with getting enough to eat. I just have no appitite whatesoever and when I do eat my stomach is very painful for at least 2 hours. Has anyone else had this problem. I am SICK of being SICK. I am 5'8" and my goal weight is 200 lbs. I still have about 30 lbs of excess skin.
Thanks Deana
Hi Deana,
I hope you get some answers here but you might have more luck on the DS forum:

I think most of the people here have had RNY.
Also, does your surgeon have a dietitian that can work with you? I do hope you get the help you need.
Hugs,

For the first six months after RNY gastric bypass, you have zero appetite and so eating is a bit of a chore. Try eating foods that are easy on the tummy, like stallone's protein pudding, creamed soups, protein shakes. Also, sometimes the painful tummy is from trying to put too much IN.... so start measuring your foods. Find out from the surgeon how much your pouch is supposed to hold and go from there with measuring your portions - it will help.
Good luck and God bless.
