No longer relating with main msg board
I'm in the same spot that you are. I was still losing last fall and was told that I wasn't eating enough calories at 1000 per day. I upped it to 1200-1500 and haven't lost since last November. I, too, have 30-40 to get to my goal weight.
I recently met with my nutritionist and was told that I should go back to 1000 per day, but no less, and I need to really up the exercise intensity. I'm working with a physical therapist to find ways to up the intensity without killing my already arthritic feet, ankles, knees and lower back. We're going to work on some weight training, too, after we concentrate a bit on my immobile lower back.
Good luck on finding out what works best for you.

I am almost 4 years out and had some of the same probs as all of you, and at about the same time frame. I too was told to up my calories and yep that didnt help. I found if i add fruit to my diet and ate about 6 times a day I started losing again. I am at goal but when I find I am slipping back I eat more often keeping my calories under 1200. . I also find I can eat alot more and maintain if I eat alot more times a day, providing it isnt donuts and such, but cheese, peanuts, chicken, fruit and stuff like that.
try deviding you 3 meals into 6 and see if that helps .
good luck
Terri
p.s. this is the board I am sticking with, the other boards are great but I am well past the 'g' tube and I need help with the problems of using my tool wisely.
The only way out of the sugar addiction for me is to go on a 3-7 day protein only food plan. I know it's not fun but it seems to kick the carb cravings for me.
We have to decide which is more important the sugar taste or the number on the scale to drop. I think all of us have our downfalls. Like you mine is sugar. I let the sugar creep back in while on vacation which led to a 10 lb gain during the last month. This is not acceptable, and I know the only way out for me is the protein diet.
I usually stay on 800-1200 calories a day per my PCP, averaging around 1,000 a day overall except when I'm on a sweet kick. You'd think I'd learn at some point that I just can't handle sweets. I can relate to alcoholics not being able to stop with one drink.
Best of luck to you.
Hi Melody,
When I had the last 20-30 pounds to lose, I got serious with weight/strength training. Building muscle helps tone, of course, but also muscle burns more calories even when you're at rest. I do weight training with a trainer twice a week in addition to my cardio workouts. And changing up the cardio also can jumpstart your loss.
If you can't afford a trainer, get a savvy friend to help you with this or get a trainer for just a few sessions to get you going with it.
You may already be doing this, just thought I'd throw it out there, since you didn't mention exercise.
Good luck to you.

Melody,
MODERATION works Great for some,
ABSTINENCE for others.
It sounds like Moderation isn't working out well for you.
Yes?
Try the other method for a while and see if
Cutting out ALL trigger foods Works.
If that doesn't,
REALLY Doesn't,
Then try something else.
Do you have Exercise in the mix?
That is the other end of the see-saw.
If you are having problems Controlling the "Calories IN" side of the Equation,
Then Maybe Counter by adjusting the "Calories OUT" portion.
Tracking at Fitday.com seems to help many.
Good sign that you realize - "I RATIONALIZE ..."
Rather than just arguing FOR your Limitations
As if they were gospel and factual....
Sounds like you're half-way there,
Realizing there is a problem.
You Make the Choices.
And sometimes they are Hard!
Like- ABSTINENCE.
You can do it!
Best Wishes-
Dx
Everyone talks about PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN. Well as a result of eating eggs every day, my cholesterol went from 156 last summer to 215 last month - totally unacceptable! HELP - How can I do a plateau busters or protein only diet if I can't eat eggs? I'm not much of a meat-eater so I rely heavily on eggs.
Betsy
Betsy, egg beaters or the whites only. Thats what i do.
To everyone else, thanks for the inspiration. Moderation is not working for me. I am working out hard and do so about 3-4 times a week. I have upped my intensity in the last month. Pat and Dx i agree with you both moderation is not working for me. I have to clean it up and OUT. I have decided to literally go back to basics, which means all liquids for today and maybe a few days. then I will go to soft foods and then solids. I have also found 6 small meals don't work great for me, as I find I go back to old grazing habits. I think I have to be a true converter to 3 solid meals a day with an afternoon snack. Now, i am sugar detoxing and overall, I feel good about this decision. Thanks everyone, it helps to hear from others who can relate.
Melinda
Me too! Only I've gained about 8 lbs !
I feel like I'm hungry all the time...even wake up at night hungry. I don't think I've stretched my pouch because I can only eat small amounts at a time. I just want to eat very frequently.
I was hoping to be to my goal by now but am going in the wrong direction!
Thanks for your post...it helps to know others are going through the same thing.
