My early on goal had been to run a 5K.... Well that never happened. I guess I could do it if I had too...but I just don't like to run! I can walk forever and I teach Water Fitness (Aerobics) 2 x a week but no running! Today I tried again but just found it really isn't for me. There is a new running club starting in my area and I have thought about it but I believe it just really isnt in my cards to RUN! Have any of you set a goal that you just really don't/can't/shouldn't/won't reach????

My feeling is running isn't all it's cracked up to be. Many of us have joint issues from being MO and don't want to put that kind of stress on them. Also when you have excess skin, that makes running tough! Wow, you are doing great, you are obviously wonderfully physically fit, so don't sweat (pardon the pun) not meeting that particular goal, you've reached lots of others! Hugs, Connie

Just because you set a goal and didn't achieve it doesn't mean you are a failure. It means it is time to re evaluate the goal. It sounds like you are doing that. Goals help motivate us to move forward. You did that. You really moved forward. Maybe your goal should have been to be in good enough shape to run. And it sounds like you are. So, congratulations you made it. Now if you decide not to run, so be it.....choose another goal and move on. Prayers going up......blessings coming down. Dancin' D 7/7/04 rny/lap -200lbs.

You can power walk your 5k instead of running and that is exactly what I do. You can go to Active.com and find 5k walk races. These races are extremely fun especially if you have friends or family that will do this with you. I have never been a runner...as a matter of fact this might sound stupid I really do not know how to run, after loosing 155 lbs I have a ton of excess skin and my center of gravity is continually changing. So when I try I look stupid and feel stupid to boot. Mary

I don't like running either. I don't think not reaching this goal should be a disappointment for you. You gave something a try and it just wasn't for you and that's ok (that's what I would tell my kids too, LOL). I think its great that you even wanted to give it a shot and it sounds like you're not lacking in the exercise department~teaching water fitness is great and of course they say walking is the BEST so you're doing fantastic in my book! Jen, So? What's with the "One Year Thing?" I'm pulling up on year three, and have just now worked up to a full, Non-Stop 5K! I'm actually going to be in an official one on the fourth of July! I started by "running about ¼ of a mile in the middle of my 3 to 4 mile walks. Each week or so, I'd add a little more. For a while I was stuck at the "3Mile Barrier!" Right at 3 miles I'd have to stop, or be a little sick! Eventually? Broke on through. In the last 3 months or so? I'm at about 4 and ½ miles before I hit my "cut off" point. But now, I go right on past 3 miles still feeling exhilarated, not Dying or Bored. At One Year? The 4 mile walk was still a challenge! You can't do Everything in the First Year! Otherwise, What'll do for the Next 75 to Top It! Don't Push the River, And Don't Give Up or Latch on To ideas, except in LONG RANGE TERMS! Who knows? 5 Years from Now, You could Love Running! My Goal is to LIVE FOREVER, Getting Healthier and Happier each week! So, I may fall just a "touch" short. "Reach for the Stars! And at least you'll be sure to touch the streetlights!" Best Wishes- Dx
