protein supplement?? I assume this means Protein shakes and bars??? And since fruit and milk aren't on list, mix with water and flavorings only or are they allowed in the shakes?? I have also seen this with the suggestion that you consume minimum 45 grams but preferablly 60-80, is this true?

Yes, protein supplement would be shakes or bars. I don't do much of the bars because of the sugar alcohols. Gas.... Yes, I would assume that the plateau buster's plan would not allow milk or fruit since they are high in natural sugars and that is what is being avoided on this plan. So, you would have to make a shake or shakes with water. (This is what I do anyway.) I think a woman's body needs somewhere around 60 grams of protein a day. My surgeon believes in protein supplements for life for post-ops. Many post-ops do just fine along their journey strictly on protein from food. There are many theories on this. Personally, I do 3 protein shakes a day (30-35 grams each) in addition to what I get from food and my diet is protein focused. I have watched my labs and when at 6-9 months post-op... I saw a trend that show my protein levels were dropping a bit (though still in normal range) even though my intake was higher the further post-op I got - I added the 3rd shake. My next set of labs showed it back up where it had been. Kathy

Try Muscle Milk you can find it at GNC also it is lactose free I prefer the chocolate and the banana cream. chocolate taste like Nesquik. 11oz contains 22 grams of protein and 5grams of sugars and no trans fats also it only has 9 carbs I had alot of problems due to being lactose intolerant and this works for me also anything above 32 grams is a waste of extra protein your body won't absorbe the extra. Yes it does mean protein bars and shakes, do watch the sugar alcohol and carbs in the bars. It is better to mix your protein with water or you can mix it in something like Crystal Light if you are making one of the fruit proteins. I drink all of my protein drinks with water or coffee if I'm drinking a hot protein. 3 per day at 25-30 grams per drink.....I have more energy when I do drink them, if I miss the next day my body let's me know it. I understand that the body can only absorb 30grams of protein at a time, so more than this in a drink would be a waste. Am I misinformed? Also, I was told not to heat the protein as it would be affected somehow. Was this also an "urban myth"? Thank you for any answer on this. Marilyn

I use a hot cocoa protein mix......I add the mix very slowly to the water so it does not affect the protein. The mix is about 15 grams. If I get 10 of it I am happy. Hot cocoa no sugar added has 4 grams....so I don't think the ho****er takes that much away....I am opting for urban myth! As far as the 30 gram rule that maybe true...I have heard that enough in two years from too many people. Its amazing how things become law and we aren't even sure why.
