Cheryl, have you had your labs drawn, I wonder what your protein levels are???????? What about vitamin A, B, C, E and zinc? If you Google hair loss and vitamin deficiencies lots of info there to read. Best wishes! Dana Dana

Hi Cheryl. Sorry to hear you are experiencing this. Hair loss can be caused by other reasons also. Some, we have no control over like androgenetic alopecia, which is hereditary. Do a search on Google and you'll find tons of information. If your labs come back okay, you might want to make an appointment with a Dermatologist since they specialize in hair/skin disorders. Good Luck. Cathy

I've had a lot of thinning on the crown for the last 3 months or so. Didn't have any noticable loss immediately after surgery as many do, but I have it now. I asked my PCP to recheck my thyroid, and that turned out OK. My gyno said I should be talking to my endocrinologist, and I couldn't get in to see him until August 1st. My brother the family practice doctor said that perhaps my estrogen levels are dropping as I progres further toward complete menopause, and that culd be causing it. Gynecologist didn't bring up that topic. Saw my surgeon on 6/2/06, and he drew my normal labs plus a few additionals (as he tells me). Every one of them came back very normal (even the B12 and I've been neglecting my B12 supplements). He did advise me to double up on my vitamins, which I've done. My hairdresser showed me the female version of the comb-over hairdo (basically moved my part closer to my ear) which helps to disguise the thinning spots (probably not really, but I tell my self it does). If I had a really great answer, I'd share, but I don't. Sue O.

I'd recommend getting your thyroid checked (blood work) in addition to the various vitamins/minerals and protein levels. Kathy

Hi Cheryl, I had very fine hair before my gastric rny (Sept 03) Before my surgery the nutritionist recommended Biotin (over the counter @ walmart) I have continued to use it even now. My hairdresser said she could tell a tremendous difference and has even recommended it to other clients who are non weight loss patients. Maybe it will help! Georgina

Cheryl, Have your Dr. check your Thyroid profile, that is when I lost my hair, falling out by the handfuls. I now am on Thyroid replacement medication, and have a full head of curly red hair again. Let me know if this helps. Good Luck! Connie
