I am 4 years post op. I moved from Connecticut to Florida 2 years ago. I have not found a Doctor in Florida to take over my after care (Labs). I hear everyone say they take B-12. I wanted to know how many miligrams you take and how often? I haven't had any labs done in two years because everything was normal for the first two years and I just kept procrastinating. I have recently called around and found that most Doctors won't bother with you if you have already had the surgery. I only take a multivitimin and 1500 mg Calcium Citrate. I had RNY prox. Thank You Bassetts Ps. I have also been on the plataeu busters plan and lost 6lbs. in 5 days. I had been slowly starting to drink with my meals for the past two years and thought my pouch had streched out. I Can't believe how little I can eat as long as I don't drink while eating.

One other question I forgot to ask. My protien shakes say I get 30% rda B-12. Do you think that takes care of it? I have 3 protein shakes per day.

Bassetts, I take a 2500 mcg B-12 every day. My labs have been running at aroun 1100 which is above the normal range. My PCP says "B12 is high. We like HIGH." I take 2 multis, 2 B100s, 1 B-12, 1500-2000 mg calcium citrate (divided into 3-4 doses), 2 vitron C (iron w/ vit C - separated a few hours from calcium). Those are my base vitamins. I take a few extras based on labs and based on my own personal choice. Great info to know on eating and drinking at the same time. Always a good reminder that if we stick with the rules... Kathy

we rny people will absorb little, if any, B-12 from foods, as the B-12 in foods needs intrinsic factor to be absorbed, and our intrinsic factor is in the part of the gut we no longer use. So, I take a liquid B complex from GNC. It is in a form that is already usable by our bodies, it does not taste bad and is easy to take and cheap too. just put a dropperful in my mouth after I brush my teeth every AM and most of it absorbs thru the mucus menmbranes. I was not supplementing initially, My B-12 levels were in the 700 range with 200-900 being normal. 6 months post op dropped to 300, still in the normal range, but I found the drop to be unacceptable. I started the GNC B complex and went back to the 700's with in a month. My PCP will order any labs I need, I just brought her a list from the surgeon. I ask for a copy of every lab to be mailed to me for my own records, that way I can track trends rather than just is the number normal or not.

That is a good Idea. I will call my surgeon's office in Connecticut and get a list of everything I need to be tested for and give it to my PCP. Thanks Bassett
