Ok, I haven't had much experience with dumping, but all of a sudden I am doing it on things I have been eating with no problems. Has any one experienced this? I am 19 months out. thx. Laura

I'm 18 months out. Over the last couple of months I've been having what feels like dumping an hour or so after I eat a meal which doesn't contain excessive fat or sugar. I get light-headed, my heart pounds, my hands shake, and I have trouble focusing on what I'm doing. This is a contrast to what happends when I consume too much sugar, where I usually just fall asleep very shortly after eating. I've been trying to figure out if there is a set of trigger foods which sets this off, but haven't noticed any pattern. The only thing that has never lead to this new dumping activity is protein shakes. I've consumed up to 60 grams of protein in a shake in a very short time without any problems. I have an appointment with my dietitian on Tuesday to discuss this, among other things. Good luck getting a handle on your situation, Sue O.

Was this feeling after eating carbohydrates (not sugars or fat)? It could be hypoglycemia caused by an overreaction of the body to carbs. Some post-ops experience an overrelease of insulin in response to carbs driving blood sugars down which causes the shakes, sweaty, fuzzy brained feeling. Do you have a glucometer to test blood sugar? Hiya Kathy... this last one was on a fatty meat (i think). Taylor Ham. I just don't get it - I have been doing so well, no dumping except for a weak moment with a fat laden doughnut. That gave me an anxiety attack in the middle of a meeting in which I physically could not get out of the room - too many people, no room to squeeze out. Thanks, Laura

Yummm, Taylor Ham.... Grew up on the stuff. Used to get it from the local butcher. Luckily our market sells the packages of it. But derned them they now sell it in 6 slices rather than 8. The 6 are too thick in my humble opinion. So now I have to seek out the 8 packers. LOL! Hmmm, I haven't had any issues with dumping on fats. Just dumped (sore belly) on weird things... Outback salmon (twice - moron me eats the leftovers), B complex that was liquid sweetened with apple juice concentrate (doh!), high protein cereal (sweetened w/ splenda?), carafate (liquid ulcer med), among a few other things. Doc said it was dumping but the only symptoms were sore abdomen... even sore to the touch. And I had to sleep to make it go away. Haven't gotten the shakey, sweaty thing. I have had two bouts of low blood sugar and that does give me the shakey, sweaty, fuzzy brained thing. I recognize that since I was on insulin for 5+ years. I posted an article on hypoglycemia after gastric bypass further down in this discussion. Take care, Kathy

Hi Laura, I am also new to posting, though I've been lurking the boards since before surgery and wow, they've helped so much! After 19 mos. I had my very first dumping experience yesterday. OMG, I never want to experience that again! I prayed (not very religious), I begged my husband to knock me out (he didn't comply) I had my kids crying LOL, I can laugh now but it sure wasn't a laughing matter last night. Thankfully, after about an hour of moaning on the floor in front of a fan with the air conditioner full tilt, I think I passed out! This morning I'm ok but I've scratched off the sugar filled treats for a while. The first year I lost 100lbs., the next six months I've seen a weight gain of 10lbs. and (thought) I could eat whatever I want, so, just maybe, its a good thing?? Nice meeting you!!! Elyse

Hi Laura! How are you doing? We just recently had an interesting post here about dumping experiences ... to answer your question specifically though, I haven't dumped all that much, but I have heard about dumping after consuming something once, and the next time not (or vice versa), so I don't think its all that uncommon. What kind of things are you now dumping on? here's a link to the previous "dumping" thread: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_grads/postdetail/20099.html?vc=0 Karyn
