Any tips for trying to get pregnant 2 years after wls?
Hello Lindsey -
I can't give you any advice based on experiences after surgery, my baby-making days are LONG over - but maybe this link will help.
Its the Pregnancy board here on OH and it's a pretty ACTIVE board:

I have several friends here in Virginia that have had healthy babies AFTER weight loss surgery and did NOT put any weight on, other then the typical prego's weight. ALL of the excess has since been lost and they're enjoying their new family, minus weight gain or issues stemming from WLS.
Good luck to you and your hubby - Lei
I got pregnant nine months out....it was way too soon. I had a very difficuly pregnancy....gained about ten pounds......but that was all baby weighed less after the birth. I threww up everything, couldn't eat a thing...was in and out of the hospital....then had 24 hour TPN the last two months....had the baby 6 weeks early.....but I wouldn't change a thing. He was perfectly healthy and I survived. You are two years out so you should sail right through it, just keep in touch with your surgeon and do your regular fisits with your PCP...just make sure he knows you have had the operation....and make sure you ok it with yuor surgeon before hand too. My son is three now...... It didn't take me long at all to get pregnant, just track your ovulation and do it like crazy those three days that are the most fertile..... Then afterwards eat healthy....your surgeon will tell you what and how much to add......and walk.......
Hi Lindsey,
I just had the most amazing little baby girl. I got pregnant about 18 months post op, gained a total of 35lbs with the pregnancy, lost 20lbs of that immediatly upon giving birth and the other 15 within 3 weeks after having her. I experienced NO complications, was quite healthy. Just make sure that your OB knows that you are a wls patient and they can offer suggestions to help you stay on track and to be as healthy as you can. ( my little one is just fine, and perfectly healthy!) Good Luck!!

AS long as you are far enough out to take in adequate nutrition you should be fine. Most doctors advise waiting 18-24 months to get pregnant. At that time you can get in enough food for yourself and a growing baby. If you need to you can see a nutritionist or OB/GYN who deals with high risk pregnancies. I've heard after baby weight is pretty easy to lose after a post wls pregnancy. But remember to eat as much as your baby needs, and don't worry about weight gain while you're pregnant. The weight can come off later and the baby's nutrition and development comes first.

I can't give you any practical post-wls preg. info, but those that have had babies after wls say the main thing is to tell your OB you're a wls patient and be especially vigilent about following your food & vit. guidelines! Good luck with your baby plans!
