My doc tells us to tuff it out. Either do the shakes or suffer the consequences. Don't mean to be harsh but just the facts. Eat more protein. Follow your docs guidelines. Darlene

Hang in there I know what you mean I'm very embarresed about my excess skin I went from 230 to 115-120 but I don't even like to have my hubby see me naked. Just hang in there and be positive. Stick with it. Try other forms of protein do you like peanut butter or stuff like that? And look at the nutritional content of stuff and find healthy stuff that has protein in it like special K bars or something like that. hang in there. Michelle

Hi Autumn, The best protein is from regular foods and not shakes, so try something different. Try chicken breast, tuna, tofu, cheese, beans and peanuts. Look at labels and choose what to buy by how much protein you can ge****ch your total calorie intake by filling the rest of your diet with veggies, some fruit and drink alot of water. If you crave something sweet, then have a protein bar. Some of them are just like candy, so watch the calories vs. the amount of protein you can get. Try not to be depressed! You have done so much better than most people already. What a success!!! Have a nice evening! HUGS. Christina

Autumn, You have done very well in the 19 months....Have you always had problems with getting protein in???? If you don't like shakes or yogurt there are plenty of other means to get your protein in....At this stage of the game your losing like the beginning of this surgery stops for longer periods. You may get a pound here or there but don't expect a lose every week....I am 24 months out and my loss is a little lower than you. I haven't lost a thing in 6 mos. I have come to terms that this is probably where my body wants to be without the PS. If you are not doing the right amount of protein you can get sick.....do have your levels checked and see where you stand. Do a food diary to help with your totals for the day. Measure your foods...you may find after you do this you are getting the minimum amount of protein that you need and not realizing it. (Min = 60 grams for us gals). I think depression at this stage of the journey is normal. We go on this high from losing so much weight and when it stops we wonder...did we do something wrong...We haven't but we don't understand. I wish you luck and hope things get better for you.

At 19 months out you should be able to get all your protein from food. Cheeses, dairy, refried beans, eggs, beef, chicken and fish. All are good sources of protein. How much are you exercising? It won't get rid of the excess skin but toning up the muscle underneath helps the sagging skin look and feel better. If you're plateauing then change up your exercise routine, check what you're eating to see if you need to change something there. Are you grazing or getting in too many carbs? Make sure your water intake is up there so you can continue to lose and stay hydrated. Also lots of water helps sagging skin shrink back. Dry skin doesn't. Check fitday.com to see how much protein you are getting and see where you could get more. Getting in more protein and upping the exercise can help a lot with sagging skin issues. Check with your doc if you aren't able to eat enough according to your post op rules your doc gave you.
