What is YOUR dumping experience like??????
okokok, I know what dumping is, but does it have different symptoms for different people? For the 1st year after surgery, I avoided sugar like it would kill me if I got a simple gram of it. How I wish I still had that fear in me. I took on the mentality that if I do everything in moderation, I would be fine. That's what NORMAL people do right? Do people who are NORMAL have gastric bypass after years of morbid obesity? dah??? Ya think I would know by now, that no one knows ME like ME and that MODERATION doesn't work for me and never will, and that NORMAL will never be a word that describes me.... With all that said... I have a question...
My question, after all that "unloading" ... is...
What happens to you "personally" when you dump?
I used to think that I just got sleepy and slept it off... Lately, I have noticed that I get a quick head rush, followed by the "usual" urge to eat some more sugar.
Then I get heavy headed, tired and MAJORLY irritable!!! I mean downright FREAKING MEAN!!!!!!!. Kind of like if I was driving, I'd run someone over in a road rage fit. Kind of like, the worst PMS possible!!! My husband threatens me, if you eat that sugar, I'm gonna leave the house for an hour... because that's how long the mean streak lasts...
Do dumping episodes change with time postop? Does anyone else experience this? HOLY CRAP! I hate that feeling! It's VERY CLOSE to getting me off sugar FOREVER..
ACKKKKKKKKK
Thanks for the input...

One day at a time with no freaking sugar!
Candy, I know what ya mean, by avoiding sugar that first year. Now I eat some. The other night I ate a handful ok more than a handful of toffee peanuts. OMG, thought I would die right there. About an hour later, I got the shakes so bad and vomited and then felt sick and heavy headed for about another 2 hours. Totally not worth it. I am lucky and have only dumped a couple times since surgery, but that is enough. Sometimes I think we believe since we are over a year out we WON"T dump anymore,.... WRONG!
I agree no more freakin sugar!!

312/165/155?
hi Rhonda!
i sorta wish i would vomit after eating sugar... in fact i really wish i would, maybe that would be a dramatic enough side effect to keep me from eating it again...
but noooooooooooooo i just have to become the sleepy super beyouch from H E double toothpicks. i wish someone else had this same side effect so i wouldnt feel so alone heck maybe being MEAN isnt a side effect after all... maybe im just getting MEAN Horrible thought! Must seek therapy!
thanks for the response!

I don't dump, and yes I've tested the waters. Did 2 times in 16 months, one time on Mexican food, the other when I ate a Krispy Creme Donut (I know bad Dana).
My dumping consist of slight nausea and sleepiness only.
Yesterday I ate 2 double chocolate chocolate chip cookies in about 1 1/2 hours, nothing happened but I felt guilty when I finally stopped and ask myself what are you doing?
Dana
Nope, you're not the only "mean" dumper out there. i don't dump very often and have found that I tolerate sugar pretty well. Ironic, because I chose RNY because I "wanted" to dump since sugar is my food of choice. But the few times I have dumped (on high-fat food) I get nauseous, light headed, a racy heart, sleepy, and REALLY CRANKY. I just have to sleep it off, otherwise I bite the heads of my loved ones off.
Therefore, I eat sugar in moderation (too much & I get nauseous) and avoid high-fat food.
XOXOXO,
Sharyn
When I dump, I actually get nauseated and severe stomach cramp/pain. I'm typically have to lie down in fetal position and end up sitting in the bathroom a while.... Not fun so sugar is something I avoid.
Funny thing, frui****ermelon, canteloupe (my favorites) don't both me... Go Figure..
Best Wishes

Hey Candy
I still Dump here at 3 years.
Avoided it completely for the last year until accidentally
Got over my sugar limit with-
(OF All Freaking Things!) A CitraCal Creamy Bite!!
My max is about 3gms.
Rules out Ketchup, Bar-B-Que sauce,
Some stuff like that. But they make most everything
In "Carb-Control" or "Carb-Monitor" brands now
So I don't "go without."
My first year I had a few bouts but finally
Got religious about label reading.
Mine is the "Early Stage Type."
Soon as the "offending Sugar" hits my pipes
All of the water in my body goes to my intestines to join the party!
I feel like I'm dehydrating then -
"Everybody Out!" trip to the bathroom.
Sort of like food poisoning sensation/reaction.
Cramping bowels, clammy sweating, shaky feeling.
If I hurry up and drink a lot of water,
It tends to be over soon, and I don't seem to have
The "longer term" Sleepy thing that some get.
I have No problem from fats at all, though some people do.
Mine is strictly a Sugar thing.
Makes it easy to prevent. I'm pretty good about picking
Things at a restaurant that don't have sugar or honey or such.
Like I can eat Teriyaki stuff, which is sweet, so long as I don't
Eat much of the sauce, just the meat.
Mine is just quick, big, and extreme.
And happens on the tiniest of sugar.
I can have slightly similar but minor symptoms,
If I drink along with a food that has a lot of carbs.
Noodles in soup will cause a little faster trip to the bathroom
Just not the cramping and only slight shaky feeling.
Some fruit will get me-
Peaches, but not apples or oranges. I'm fine with watermelon
But have had a problem with cantaloupe if it's really sweet.
Grapes will get me if I don't eat them along with some
Non-sweet food like cheese.
The "Mean" dumping?
Many people do have Hormonal reactions associated with
Spikes or drops in Blood Sugar levels.
Bet ya that's it.
Good to see you out on the board!
Hope you're doing great!
Best Wishes-
Dx
