HELP!!! 25 Months out
And 30 pounds heavier then last year. Need a quick start back on the right track plan. I have other friends who have had the surgery that are in the same boat, they are trying all kinds of things: WW, LA diet, starvation, diet pills..... I want to get strong advice first before I do something stupid.
Go back to the basics - protein firs****er load so you don't eat as much, exercise, make better food choices...don't overeact and get drastic. I beliee my overeaction to the scale all these years helped me stay overweight because I would get on the scale - see a weight gain - and then get crazy about "loosing the weight" - start starving - slowing down my metabolism - and then put more weight on - that old viscious cycle. That cycle is not us anymore...we have a tool...
The tool is there to use anytime you are ready to use it. I am 18 months out and I see old habits creeping in - I see me making poor food choices - I see my weight go up a few pounds...and I am scared to death of putting the weight on - but this surgery is about using a tool - just start using it...don't go drastic - like you said you are 25 months out so the extra 30 pounds did not come on overnight - just turn the corner and start using the tool surgery and modern medicine gave you...for me - I go all the way back to basics (all protein liquid) for a few days, and then start slowly putting back foods...then watch your snacking and what you are doing that is not a good choice. Is it head hunger - find out why and stop...is it poor food choices - start saying no to the ice cream or the candy and yes to protein, cheese, vegies, fruit (if you can tolerate them)...is it a lack of exercise - start slowly going for a walk after work, go window shopping, get out there...The point is don't overeact but rather react to the scale - you know what you need to do. I look back at all the times I have lost weight and then 2 years later put it all back on and I think "now how did I loose it before?" Its like I forget...just jogging your memory Pixie
- you can do it anytime you choose. Life is a choice every day every hour every minute - choose wisely and the weight will come back off...blessings!

Alice, I just want to say thanks to that last post, even tho i didnt ask the question it help me too. i even cut and paste ur message in a word doc. so i can read it to stay on track because i fear the gaining pounds. I know that ever so often i make the wrong choices in food, like i eat alot of take out at time
I agree with the other response~go back to the basics. The tool that you have will continue to work for you if you work with it. Sometimes its hard for me (at just 18mths post op) to look back and remember how I ate at say, 1yr out, but I'd say try to get back to the protein firs****er water water, exercise and no snacking/grazing and you'll do great! Starvation is the wrong route~you might lose at first, but like we've all done over the years, it will all come back and maybe then some. I don't like the diet pills idea either~just not a good idea and I definitely wouldn't start taking anything like that without talking to my pcp and surgeon first. I know alot of post ops us WW or LA~that's a personal choice and I know some say that it keeps them accountable to someone other than themself so that's what makes it work for them.
For me, weighing in daily has helped so much. I certainly do not eat perfectly every day and when I eat poorly, I know it and admit it to myself. What I'm trying to do is weigh in daily and if I see my weight has gone up a few pounds, I concentrate on the basics for a few days and get those pounds back off. So far its working~waiting to see how it will work in the long run.
Good Luck and I know you can do this!!! Hang in there!!!

I also agree with the other posters....back to basics ~ protein firs****er, vitamins and exercise.
I refuse to ever take diet pills again. I do however believe WW is a good option if you need the face-to-face support and accountablity. Do you participate in any live support groups? I feel it is imperative for me to belong to a group that I can discuss the ups and downs of my new life. I strongly recommend you try this route first.
As Tracy said, I face struggles some days also making wise choices, but I'm a scale-oholic and weigh every day....when I see the scale up a couple of lbs I get back to protein only for a few days, for me it's the only way.
Best wishes,
Dana
