What do you do...

What do you do when you lose complete interest in food? I mean, I eat - pretty much on schedule and I DO get hungry, but nothing sounds good and I'd just as soon have a cup of coffee as to eat food....weird huh? I mean it just doesn't matter what I eat - so long as it doesn't taste bad. So I'm eating the same basic foods day after day. Wandered the store for HOURS literally, looking for anything that appealed to me. Nothing did. AND to top it off, the amount I can eat has reduced some. I have always (for the last 2 years) been able to eat 2 slices of toast or 4 cheese sticks in one sitting. Now I can eat one and a 1/2 slices and one bite into that second half and I get VERY FULL - same with the cheese. One bite into the 4th stick and I'm queasy from being full. Ugh. Anyone else go through this this far out? I'm puzzled. Not worried - am sure it's just a phase and I'll keep eating as I should, but what gives? Thanks for listening, ~Toots

Dame T, I sometimes get that - Nothing seems worth the bother..." About food. I cook mostly, and hit "spells" now and then Where I also just eat because "I'm supposed to." My wife pointed out that she can tell when I'm feeling this way Because my cooking gets less 'adventurous' and more "fallback position." Mine hit this spring when the weather started warming. (possible connection?) I started taking us out to eat in the evenings rather than "Re-working" the same old stuff or leftovers, and that seemed to do the trick. I guess I got "re-energized" about food by turning on my sense of-- "I bet I could Make that!" I do go through "Waves" of kitchen creativity working for the "Goldie-Lock's,Just Right" dishes. Searching for Great Tasting stuff that has higher Protein/Fiber/Taste Factor. Just thinking back over my similar experience. The "Fun of Cooking" stirs my "Fun of Eating" (or at least tasting) And then I'm back to my usual routine With just a couple of new additions/substitutions. It seems that I do have "waves" because my son asked a few weeks back- "Hey, what happened to all the pineapple?" I had been making "pineapple pork, salsa, Grilled fresh Pineapple with fish/shrimp skewers, SF Trifle/Puddings, Curried dishes, etc..." Then just lost interest in it, and moved on. Apparently there were a few things that I used Pineapple in, That are now on the "request list." My thought? Go Out to eat for a week. And someplace cool. Order stuff you've never tried before. Curiosity alone will get you to try things, then maybe the sense of "I can do that, Even Better!" will kick in. Maybe? I Think that's what I've done... Best Wishes- Dx

LOL Thanks Dx...some good food for thought. Maybe I'm just bored with the foods I've been eating. Sigh....

Hi Tooter ... well, I have somewhat different "issues", but along with no appetite, nothing does appeal to me (except my coffee). This is very confusing to me, because I LOVE food, I've always loved food, and now, I could just leave it. I'll see a commercial for something I really like, and say to myself, "oh that would be good" ... but when it comes to actually going out for it (be it a restaurant or a store to get it), I just don't. I tend to do the same foods (ok, mostly soups) everyday as well, and it was hinted that that's not good to do (don't really know why though). If you do find an explanation, I'd be interested!

Hmmm, that is weird. I'm just 18mths out, but I've gone thru short phases of this. Dh tells me its b/c I tend to eat the same things over and over day after day~he could be right I guess, but I eat what I like and those are the things that I like, LOL! Also, I'm a VERY scheduled eater so I feel like alot of times I eat b/c it's that time on the daily schedule~those are the times when I don't eat as much. I'll be checking back to see if you get any good answers to this! Tracy B 328/152 5'9"

I've definitely been guilty of phase food eating. Strawberries at 7 bucks a pound lol. Ack! Maybe I've phased myself out of foods hehe.

What do you mean "no interest in food?" Is that possible? LOL. I don't get hungry so I eat by the clock but I always love my food, I enjoy it, I like preparing it, I look forward to favorite dishes - I guess I've always loved food and that's not going to change. My amounts have always been pretty normal for a post op but I notice some days a couple bites and I'm full and other days I eat my meal and still could fit more in. I guess we change even this far out and things are never the same day to day. I eat the same things day after day because it works for me, and then I know how many calories, etc. I'm getting if I dont' vary my menu much. If I dont' eat I dont' get hungry enough to remind myself that I've missed a meal - which still amazes me to this day! I don't miss many meals and still love food - I'll have to watch to see if I eat because it's time or if I do occasionally lose interest in food. Thanks for the thought provoking post! Myrtle.

Tooter--No interest in food is something which I can honestly say I can not relate to. Now bored with certain foods after eating them too often--that does happen. Maybe being able to eat less is a good thing. Two slices of toast are definitey at the upper end of my max. Hope things improve for you. Are you depressed--could that be causing your ack of interest in food?
