Protien Question
Hi Everyone,
I am like 19mos out, I am 20lbs below my goal, I want to put back 10-15lbs of them, I lost the extra weight due to a complication from plastic surgery that had me so sick that I could not eat for a while. Anyway I am working hard to get my foods in but I am supplementing right now w/protien as I am still struggling w/food a bit and have quite a bit of healing left to do so I really need it.
I Normally buy a Whey Protien by body fortress at walmart for like 12.00, well today I went and they no longer carry any protien powders (they said there was a recall??) other than the ready made stuff like slim fast. I am going to have find a new powder that I like at a health food store here.
So this got me to thinking is there a difference in the quality of a protien powder or is protien just protien regardless of the brand, price ect.....
Any thoughts,
Melissa
Protein shakes are a very individual like/dislike thing. My personal favorites are as follows:
GNC 100% Whey Protein [chocolate][20 gm/scoop]
IDS Banana [26 gm/scoop]
IDS Vanilla cinnamon [26 gm/scoop]
IDS Belgian Chocolate [26 gm/scoop]
Protein Delite White Chocolate Strawberry* [mega expensive - special treat]
Protein Delite Coconut Almond* [mega expensive - special treat]
All of the above mix instantly and have wonderful taste, without that gritty mealy sensation. I use a shaker glass instead of a blender to avoid making it too thick or foamy. You can also get the unflavored proteins and mix them into your foods and drinks. I will admit that I have never used the unflavored proteins and have no idea what they will do to the flavor and texture of your foods and beverages. I recommend getting a trial pack from bariatriceating.com [she includes IDS and several other brands] and from vitalady.com [she carries the champion whey stack brand]. You can get many different brands at wlssupplies.com at only $1.60 per sample.
The Stallone Pudding is also quite tasty and has 20 grams of protein in each little can. It comes in four flavors and can be purchased at GNC by the can [like a sampler]. Bariatriceating.com has another brand of protein puddings, but then you got the shipping and handling expense going on there. Additionally, Isopure makes a ready to go clear liquid bottle in various flavors with 40 grams a bottle. It can be sipped an ounce at a time.

There is a big difference in protein powders. Whey protein is usually better for women, I buy mine at Vitamin World (in malls and online) The brand is Prescision Protein, its about 18.00 for 2 1/2 lbs. and it tastes good. Make sure on the ingredient list of whatever brand you buy there are no bovine listed ingredients (I don't know exactly what they are but they don't sound good, I found that in the cheaper brands) Good Luck!
