Since my Surgery I weigh my self daily (once in the morning) I found this has kept me in check. Does Weighing Every Day Keep Pounds Away? Get a better read on your progress. by Selene Yeager The news: Daily weighing speeds loss When University of Minnesota researchers monitored the scale habits of 1,800 dieting adults, they found that those who weighed themselves daily lost an average of 12 pounds over 2 years; weekly scale watchers lost only 6. The once-a-day group also was less likely to regain lost weight. But respected programs such as Weigh****chers--and Prevention experts--caution against daily weighing Scale obsession has been linked to eating disorders, and some experts argue that the distress and discouragement brought on by a daily weight check could cause people to go off their diet; however, there's been no research to prove this. Bottom line: Try it if you're healthy and motivated By serving as a regular reminder of weight loss goals and allowing dieters to nip weight gains in the bud, daily weighing may help. But the practice may not be the reason the study subjects lost more, says Prevention weight loss advisor Kelly Brownell, PhD. "This may just prove that people who are doing well like the feedback, so naturally they weigh themselves more often than those who are struggling." If you do a daily check-in, be sure to also log your results in a journal to track your long-term progress. And don't weigh yourself daily if you have a history of an eating disorder. Yup, I weigh myself everyday...I don't freak out when there is fluctuation. What I'm looking for is an upward trend. Then I go into action mode. XOXOXO, Sharyn

I only weigh myself once a month. The scale is right there, in the main bathroom, but I avoid it like the plague. I guess years of conditioning have made the bathroom scales into a fear almost as great as my dental checkups. LOL I weigh on the 15th of every month, which is the anniversary date of my lap RNY. I tried once a week for the first year, but when the weight loss slowed to a crawl, I found the lack of progress depressing, so I switched to monthly. Perhaps as I get closer to goal, I can start to think of the scale as a friend, instead of a foe. You've done amazing with your loss. !!! Karen G

Mary, I weigh everyday, sometimes 2-3 times a day....I know many discourage it but it doesn't throw me into a tail-spin and it keeps me in check. If I see the scale move up I am prepared to change things up and increase my water intake the next day. It works for me but I agree if it causes eating disorders it's best to hide the scale and weigh less often. Dana

I'm a daily weigher-in-er too. I know that I need the daily accountability. I've been on too many diets in the past where I would wait until right before I had to weigh in before I got serious about losing weight. I get alot of kidding at my support group about it, everyone says to stop. But it works for me and I plan on continuing. I also don't get too depressed if I see some fluctuations as long as it doesn't continue to go up. Sometimes I get frustrated knowing that I did everything I was supposed to and nothing happens. But I'd rather deal with the daily frustrations than wait a month only to find out I've gained 5 or 10 lbs. Congrats on your success. Linda 273/162/150/140

I think weighing daily, or several times weekly, is vital for maintenance. Like everyone says, catch any gain before it spirals out of control. During active weight loss, though, I can see how it would be frustrating to weigh daily with the fluctuations in fluid retention and whatnot. Seeing a true loss is tougher that way. Fortunately for me, because I'm like Dana and could weigh multiple times a day, my scale didn't survive my last move several years ago, and I never re-bought (mostly because I didn't want to know what it said)! However, someone brought a doctor's scale to our office - which is not a doctor's office! - so that's where I weigh. It works for me, particularly since I'm maintaining now. However, I'm ready to kick into gear and get this last little bit off - so I need to go back to once-a-week weighing in order to be happier with my loss! That scale can be as tempting as any candy or chip in the world, can't it?! Take care, everyone, Kathryn

I weigh my self everyday but I only count my weight at my last Dr Appoinment as my offical weight because my scale is always 2 pounds more than the Dr's scale
