13 months out

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in months. Here's my scoop. I'm 13 months out-20 pounds from my personal goal. I'm slightly discouraged cuz my scales have been the same for a few months. There again, I shouldn't expect more cuz I've not really put the effort into it, either. Work has been crazy--and I've been in school myself at night. Add in a busy family-well, I've just been doing good to slide by. (I know that sounds like an excuse--but it's really just the truth about my hectic life lately) Now that summer is here (and I'm out of school), I want to get back on track with my exercise and keeping track of my food intake on fitday. I think I can lose these last 20--I really want to, anyway. Any words of advice on getting started again? Anyone have a 'jumpstart' to getting these pounds to move after months of being the same weight? (I've moved up and down over a three pound spread since Feb.) You all are always so helpful to me--I thank you in advance for any words of wisdom you might offer. Happy Camper

Michelle, I'll give it my best.... My "last 20" came off without really "working at it" BUT- That's because, I believe, because of 2 things- 1.) I got in the HABIT of good eating choices/portions, and, 2.) I added in exercise at year one when I was able. The exercise built muscle so my "resting calorie consumption" was higher And the "habitual" food choices took the burden off of me And my wimpy, non-existent "will-power." That's what worked for me. Others are obviously different. But what if you're 13 months Post-Op And the habit you have created is to "Blow off Breakfast, Have a shake for lunch, And snack the rest of the day away?" A member of my support group said she found herself In exactly that same predicament. She was at about 1 year out. Had lost down and stalled about 30 lbs short of a normal BMI And then had a bit of regain. The Dr.'s Recommendation? "Start Over!" He had her go back to a week of Liquids, Followed by Pureed, the Mechanical Soft, etc... The plan was to Learn to use the Pouch. She had skipped the "Learning" part her first time out. Must have worked, because over the next 5 months of support meetings She was losing on down and is now just about 5 lbs from her goal. That's my limited "face to face" or personal experience, But I have one more idea. I have heard people swear by the "Tips and Tricks" of Dr. Simpson Out in Arizona. 2 books in particular- "Getting to Goal: and Staying There" and, "Losing the Last 30 Pounds: Fundamentals of Weightloss." Maybe check out some of his "chat scripts" at his website- http://www.drsimpson.com/chattranscripts.php He's a very reputable, National figure in Bariatric Surgery. I have No personal opinion, But have run across folks who think he has the answers! That's all I could think of. Except, Don't be Discouraged. May you have a Great and Successful Summer! Best Wishes- Dx
