Hormones and WLS

Hello! I have lost 100 lbs over 2 years from my RNY surgery. I had had a complete hysterectomy before that. Already had hypothyroidism before surgery. Found out my hormones were going wacky again last year and went to an endocrinologist to get my thyroid, progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen balanced out. I'm only 48 yo but felt like 78 before doing this hormone thing. My progesterone and testosterone were about zero and I was already on estrogen but no real monitoring on it. Seems to be a normal thing on this after a hysterectomy but at my age I shouldn't be like this and it ages you sooner. Feel better but I am plateau'd. The doctor says maybe I am doing some muscles building, plus I have been tied up in my office in the chair with work for longer and longer periods so I don't get to do as much activity physically as I would like to do. And when I do get active, my arthritis in my hands and knees kicks in and makes me ache. Whenever the doctor adjusts my hormones it makes the glands under my armpits swell and really hurt too. The last few months seem like a never ending cycle of hormones, aching, and for 3 months now, no weight loss. Has anyone else out there been thru all this too? Any suggestions? The doctor things the aching under my arms is normal and I just have to live thru it but it makes me miserable.

I'm sorry you're having to go through all this. I wish I had some advice for you, but unfortunately, I don't know much about all this stuff. Have you considered getting another (or more) opinion? Perhaps another doc could shed a different light on all of it, or offer some different suggestions. You don't sound happy with things the way they are, but it one or two more docs tell you the same things, then I guess you'll be able to accept it better. ON the other hand, maybe they will know something the first doc didn't. Good luck. Carlita

Hello Fellow Arizonian.... I'm also having hormone problems but different from yours. I still have my parts. I've asked for advise from this board as I've started new meds. I actually have maintained my weight for about 6 months now but afraid at this rate I'm going to gain it back. My new OB/GYN is into Hoilistic medicine and has some good theories (She was an assitant surgeon to a WLS surgeon for a period of time.) She is looking at my adreline gland as they are finding this now to be an issue with many people that is causing the hormone imbalance. Once they treat it it makes the other things go away. I know about the body aches as I'm suffering from Fibromyalgia. She beleives the Probiotics and Omega 3 fish oil will help with this pain as well. I'm all for it if it does not cause me to gain weight. Wishing you better days when you get to the bottom of what ails you. Terri 303/140
