Hi, I just found this particular thread on o.h's site. {graduates} I am 12 months post op and have been at goal weight (127 lbs) since I was 8 months post op. I was diagnosed as being hypoglycemic. I get dizzy and almost pass out it seems almost daily. I'm just worried that it could be more than the hypoglycemia. I eat about 5 meals a day now, and I try to make sure I get in enough sugar. I should probably elaborate on what I have in a 'meal'. One may be yogurt for breakfast, and another could be a snack of beef jerkey. I may have part of a sandwich for lunch, and then some other snack before a small helping of lasagna for dinner. Sometimes I even eat again after dinner. I feel that I'm eating enough to fight the hypoglycemia, but I still get dizzy pretty much daily. I have seen posts that have to do with heart problems. Does anyone have any advice as to where I may look further into this? Thanks! Kimberly 272/128/5'7

Start w/ your PCP. He or she may have you get a glucometer to check your blood glucose levels during episodes of dizziness. Identifying hypoglycemia is fairly straigtforward, even if the treatment is not so easily managed. If there is some cardiac issues is play, its going to take a cardiologist to sort that out. Just be aware the hypoglycemia is not a trivial condition. There is a tendancy to see diabetes as its evil twin, but both can be lethal. It usually takes a lifetime of diabetes to damage one's body; a single episode of hypoglycemia while behind the wheel of a car puts many at risk. Nowhere Man/PH/Jay

Hey kimberly; I was having the same problems and I am more then 5 yrs out, I started snacking on sweets, a little piece of candy here and there and I did not realise I started doing too much all day, I found myself grazing on too many sweets during a 24 hr period, mind you I just started with one piece or 2 a day , but I did not realise I started more and more each day, I was getting dizzy and nauseated and sick almost to the point I would pass out. I have given up all candy and deserts,. Which I should not have been eating at all anyway. This has been about 5 mths now and I am doing great. Hope you find out the cause, bruce

hi there im about a year and a half out myself and I also have episodes like you do. Usually after ive gone near the sweets. I get the shakes and nautious and need to lie down about 5 min after i eat sweets. It generally last about 20 min to 45 min. As far as the blackouts(sitting down then go to get up and it s like everything starts to go black and i feel like Im going to stumble) go I find that I am more likely to have those when I have nothing in me protien and the good stuff to keep me going. Ive found to fend this off if i make sure Im getting in my protien and my veggies then the dizziness keeps at bay. I know now that my day is very closely related to what I eat. If im eating good and doing what I should I have mostly great days with little to no almost falling down. If i have atempting day and get intot he sweets or skip meals i tend to have a the room is spinning and I gotta sit/lay down for a lil bit. With the blackouts my doc said take my time getting up don't be sitting down looking at the ground then bounce up. Dont neglect your meals eat every 2 to 3 hours even if its justa bite or two or three. Dont eat the bad carbs ie chocolate or stuff with refined sugar in it and expect not to have a hypoglecemic episode. If we eat too much refined sugar too fast its gonna happen. well thats about it hope it helps let ya know your not alone deb gale 283 now 149 5"9 and lovin it
