For those that weigh daily...
I weigh daily - but just once. Last year, I read an article in Health magazine about a study that compared people on diets who were told to weigh daily and those who were told to weigh monthly. People who weighed daily lost more weight and kept it off better. Their speculation was what so many of you have said - vigilance and awareness. When I saw my surgeon (before he left for Boston ), I told him about weighing myself daily and he mentioned the same study so I think it's credible. Also as many of you have said, as long as you know that your weight will fluctuate and it doesn't make you crazy, it can really be a tool. I spent the better part of my life avoiding scales because of what they would tell me; now I look forward to it. Go figure....

I also weigh daily and recommend it to anyone who seeks my input on weight loss surgery. I have seen too many who do not weigh gain their weight back, one is my best friend.
I fluctuate 3 lbs, one time 4.5 lbs! I freaked out. My surgeon says 4 lbs is a definite gain and you need to get control immediately. So that is what I do. I will work out or add some more protein.
I will not gain weight again. I don't believe in the concept of bounce back weight. I've been at goal for over a year and I will stay at goal for the rest of my life! I even went thru some bulemia issues and my counselor said "throw your scale out for a month". I told him no way! If I did that I could be up 10 lbs and then you would have a lot more serious issues to deal with than bulemia!
I like wearing a size 8 and feeling great and I will not make any excuses. This was a TOOL for losing weight and we are adults who can make choices about what we eat and how we work out and whether we take our vitamins and I am in control of it!
Tracy,
I, too, weigh everymorning (and sometimes every night) to check. My weight stayed very stable for over a year and all of the sudden in January, I gained 5 pounds and I simply cannot get them off. Now, I'm back to basics, because while 5 pounds doesn't scare me to badly and I can live with it since all of last summer's clothing still fits, I don't want to see it climb any further.
I can fluctuate as much as 2-3 pounds per day and it doesn't seem to have any relationship to what I've eaten or not eaten on any given day. I WILL always drop 2-3 pounds a couple of days prior to my period. Unfortunately, it always comes back.
I deal with cravings and old eating habits on a daily basis. If I didn't weigh every day, I'd put weight back on very, very quickly and be up a creek without a paddle. Weighing every day keeps me focused and honest about what I'm doing.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one with these kinds of issues.

hey tracy!
i ABSOLUTELY weigh everyday! obsessed? maybe. but i think of it more as keeping myself on track. i always weigh first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom and always at night before i get in my jammies. i can usually tell by the night weight if i am going to be up or down the next morning. sometimes i will weigh during the day and if it is higher than i think my "night" weight should be, i use that to judge what i will eat the rest of the day. ok, so yeah, i think i might be just a little obsessed!
my weight never fluctuates more than a lb daily. for example, i weighed 114 all last week, til sunday. sunday was 115 and monday was 116! yesterday and today i am back down to 115. i am trying not to WANT to lose anymore, so sometimes i wonder if i subconciously TRY to gain a lb or 2, so i have something to work for in getting it back off. boy, my head is a mess!

"i can usually tell by the night weight if i am going to be up or down the next morning."

BTW, back down to 119 this morning, I've been pushing water, over 120 oz a day the past 3 days, wooo hooo
