low carotene (Vit A level)
Hi, I am going on 3 years out and have tremendously well, however lately my labs have come back a little low first with low white count, then low carotene or Vit A level, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else out this far.
Also, was wondering how much anyone eats this far out, I still struggle with thinking I am eating too much, not sure.
thanks Harriet
Harriet, our dates are close,
But I've not had any issues with low A.
I do eat a lot of eggs, carrots, and mangoes,
All are good sources for A.
Vitamin A is an anti-infective vitamin,
Which supports the immune system,
Which may be why the "white count" is down?
Just a thought.
I do take a full spectrum Vitamin supplement which has A in it
But I haven't heard of this one (or don't remember) before in RNY'ers.
Have heard of DS folk needing to supplement it.
Just a shot- Are you 'bypassed' Proximal or Distal?
A is one of the 'fat soluble vitamins' so it may be from reduced fat intake?
That may result from thinking you are "eating too much?"
Just random thoughts.
I'm sure your Nutritionist or Doc will have supplement info.
Hope it's back in the Norm range soon!
Best wishes-
Dx
