I R A Graduate
Of course, you know I wanted to put the letter R backwards for effect.
Hello, fellow graduates! Yesterday was a year for me. Many of ya know me, some probably don't and that's okay with me. Old friends, new friends... that works.
I'm Kathy, age 45, live in Fairfax, VA (outside of Washington DC where Becky Sue will be visiting in the end of June and I'm excited but I digress...). I had my lap RNY on 5/20/2005. My starting weight was 276 at 5'7.5". I lost 32 lbs on a pre-op diet and was down to 244 on surgery day. I'm down to 167. So, 109 lbs lost but not forgotten!
I'm married to Rich, age 41. He had open RNY on 8/5/2004. His started weight was 450. He now hovers between 245 and 250 or thereabouts at 6'5".
I posted my story yesterday, I won't repeat it here but here is a link if you are interested.

My 1 year labs came back well though I don't have 'em in my own hands yet. I have a selenium deficiency and elevated liver enzymes. I also have right side pain (this has been on ongoing problem since September of last year - pain from Sept to Nov and then faded and came back two months ago) that we think after extensive testing is a rib cartilage issue. I wonder if all of it is related to the selenium deficiency. I bought a selenium supplement Friday and started taking it per my doctor. We'll see.
I spent my one year surgiversary at the Joint Forces Air Show at Andrews Air Force base. It was nice for Rich and I both to be able to walk around and not be fatigued/winder/exhausted or sweating like crazy. We would have never been able to do this two years ago.

Hi, Val!
It was great to meet you too.
We never get to the DC support group meetings since Rich works weekday afternoons/evenings (keeping the DC area informed of traffic, of course).
Sorry we didn't get to any of your sessions at the conference. There were just far too many sessions going on at the same time and not enough of us to go around.
Take care, Kathy
