Topic: "Race for the Cure"-breast cancer walk
Hi. Anyone going to walk in the Race for the Cure? Our state walk is on September 18th, and I am doing the 5K walk, which is only 3 miles. I couldn't have done it before my surgery. I am thrilled and a little emotional about it too. I am walking in honor of my mom who was a breast cancer survivor, and I am also walking it as a stomach cancer survivor. I had surgery for a little over a year ago, and I had the added benefit of it being a modified RNY surgery. So far, I have lost about 55 lbs, but I hope to lose another 40. I know that walking and other kinds of exercising have helped me regain my health and energy more quickly.
I hope to see more postings on this messageboard because it always helps motivate me when I read what others have to say. Enjoy the good summer weather, and happy trails!

Hi Samaria,
I didn't have my open but I started walking a few days after I was home only because I was constipated and walking was the only thing that helped me. But it really depends on how you feel take it slow at first. Go for short distance first and then work up. Hope this helps..
God Bless,
Theresa

For all of you who have come through the journey of weight loss surgery please advise a newbie! I realize that you shouldn't start working out until the surgeon releases you. I was wondering how soon after surgery (both lap and open espically open patients) did you start to work out. I just joined a gym and I know I can't lift for a few weeks. I am having the open procedure. It's starting to get warmer on the east coast and I want to work on the tred mill. Please any input would be appreciated.
Blessings,
Samaria
Topic: RE: Question about treadmills...
Got a NordicTrac from Sears with the service agreement...VERY helpful..have needed to use the service agreement 3 times in 5 years but I am glad I had it! I use the treadmill all the time while watching TV...I even made an exercise video so to speak...all my favorite videos (fast paced) back to back for 1 hour...makes my little legs keep moving to the beat!
Good luck!

Michael~
Most models only go up to 250 pounds. I just got one ~ Proform. I love it! (I'm under 250) I say buy one and get the coverage for work and parts.... Sears.
Best of luck!
