Wow Lizzie!! What a motivator for all of us! I live way too far from work, but I think that's awesome! Keep up the great work! Kerri

Topic: Hi...I'm new!!
Hi all! I'm new to this board. I usually post on the June board or the California board. I'm interested in starting to train to walk a half marathon. I could use any imput you guys can give. Sounds like you all are setting some wonderful goals for yourselves during the month of February. I'd like to join in if you don't mind. Has anyone done any type of long walk, such as a 5k or 1/2 marathon before? This would be an unbelievable hurdle since I can't walk more than 3 miles at a time right now. Have a great night! Kerri

Topic: FEB GOAL
I failed to make a guess-timate as to how much I shall walk in Feb. I would like to walk 4 days a week... 3 of those days I will try to walk SIX miles each day. (Last month, I walked only 13 days, but managed to walk 39 miles!!!) So, my guess is that I'll manage to do as follows: M, W, F= 6 miles each = 18 miles Sat= 2 Totals= 20 miles per week 80 (EIGHTY) miles per month!!! Hope I can do it. Liz in AZ

I'm a walker too!! I picked up my walking again in February, after a FIVE MONTH LAPSE in walking!!! Ug! I am BAD. I was doing good those few months after surgery. Then summer in Phoenix hit and the humidity, and so I stopped hitting the pavement. Then I got LAZY... the weight still came off but too slowly. Anyhoo... I came up w/a GOOD solution for myself. Since I have trouble getting out there, due to "not wanting to"... I figure, "I have to get to work, right???" Well, as a school bus driver, I can wear what I want to work... so I decided to put on my walking pants (lightweight sweats) and of course my tennies... and so I walked to work 13 days! The school I work at is THREE MILES one way, but it's a nice walk! THEN... I figured, if I can walk TO work, why not walk BACK also??? This works well when my hubby (also a bus driver) has a field trip after school hours and cannot come and get me. So, on days when I don't have a field trip, I get in SIX miles that day. Takes only 2 hours total. I have lost 3 pounds, but figure I have firmed up some muscle. Also, my pants are a bit looser. Hip hip! --Lizzie G surg 2/22/05 282/177/needing 2 B 138

That is a great goal! Just remember to listen to your body. You still need rest. But, walking is a great way to get rid of the nasty gas from surgery! I'm glad you are joining us! Seven
