Topic: Daily Log (Thursday)
I took off to do my 'long' walk. I realized I forgot to take water. I'll just stop and buy some, right? Wrong! I also forgot to take any money! After thinking a bit, I decide to walk up to CVS and turn around and go home, that is 1.25 miles one way. I'll get me a drink and walk it again. Five miles will be fine for the day. As I am headed home, I start thinking (Oops, I never should do that!) My back is hurting, the wind is blowing me all over the place. I know when I get home, I will never leave again. I am already beating myself up.
I get home and there is no way I am going to go walking again. I am really feeling like a loser, wondering where my drive has gone. About 30 minutes later I start feeling bad. I take my blood sugar and it is 63. What if I had been 3 miles from home, no snack, no money and low sugar? I guess some things are just meant to work out the way they do.
Lesson learned: Carry water, protein snack and a couple of bucks when you go walking.

The only thing I would say is you need to fidn your resting heart rate.
Once you do that you will be able to find a Fat Burn zone or a Cardio Zone. They are very different, and where you want to keep the rate depends on rate and intesity of your walking.

Charlie, welcome to the walking forum! Five miles a day is awesome! The best advice I can give is to walk 30 minutes to 1 hour a day. Make sure you walk fast enough to raise your heart rate. Just taking a stroll doesn't cut it! Even if you stroll for 5 hours! You can get lots of info about walking at:

HOW IT WORKS
Set a goal in minutes or miles for the month of February. Every time you walk, go to the walking forum and log it. At the end of the month see if you reached your goal. It is that simple!
EXAMPLE
I will walk 10 hours in the month of February.
or
I will walk 25 miles in the month of February.
These can be any type of walks - around the neighborhood, the track, treadmill, mall walks, Walk Away the Pound videos, what ever. But they do need to be walks, not exercise in general.

I walked 3 miles on Monday on the treadmill. I usually walk outside with our dogs, but too cold today- for CA that is. I listen to music on my ipod while walking. If I am on the treadmill, I usually haved the tv on as well. 15 miles to go until I reach my goal.

I have never posted on this forum before. Maybe you can provide some education. I will be three years out this coming July. I am 60 years old and try to walk at least 5 miles a day. Should I be doing more? How do you figure out what you should be walking daily? Thanks in advance for the help. Charlie

Didn't do too much. Had Valentine's Parties for my 2 boys so that was fun.
I'm so excited b/c I got to walk OUTSIDE today!!! WooHoo!!! I'ts 50 and sunny here and it felt sooooooooooo good! See, it doesn't take much to make me happy!!!!!

Good morning My valentine's day was ok... I ate too much but I worked out really hard and boy am I sore today. I managed to walk 1.61 miles today though which leaves me 11.02 miles left to walk for February. At this rate I might even exceed my goal I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day and a great day today as well
