Topic: Seattle area plastic surgeons?
Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone has strong recommendations for plastic surgeons in the Seattle area. I am consulting with Dr. Salemy and Dr. Jonov next week for what I'm hoping will be a mommy makeover.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

 Merrillee,

There is a group that meets at the Poodle Dog in Fife on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm. It may be to far for you, but it is a fun group. Do you ever see Heather for the Gig Harbor group?

Take care,
Kelly

HI. I just had my WLS this past week. I too live in Capitol Hill, i had mine done at UWMC and I use the support group through there. I am not aware of anything closer, they gave me a handout with all the "official" support groups. Maybe some people are doing something privately?

Hey Kelly,

It was almost 2 years ago.  So, he was still there.  I guess Dr. Hirai left, too.....such a bummer. I really liked him.

Thanks for the good thoughts....

 Hi Sandy69!
WHOA!!!  You don't say where you started, but you have done wonderfully, and have to stop and let your body catch up. Who said your optimal weight is 160-165? Maybe your body is telling you it is 175!  PLEASE don't be so concerned about the numbers that it derails everything good you are doing. You are beating the odds by MAINTAINING (not being "stuck").  Enjoy where you are and give your body a break.
If you still think your pouch should be smaller, then eat like it is. Measure your food and see how much you are really eating. Are you drinking your protein shakes? Studies have shown lack of protein is the biggest hindrance to any LGB weight loss. You can not possibly eat the 90-120 grams of protein you should be getting a day, and even if you did eat that amount as listed on a label, you would only be absorbing approximately 1/3 of it.
I agree with your statement that your PCP is unknowledgable about bariatric surgery. If there would have been a surgical reason for you not to lose weight, you would not have lost more than a few pounds, or stopped losing early on after your surgery. Normally for GB if there is a lack of weight loss, it is not due to pouch size, but intestine length.  Do you really want to go through another surgery for 10-15 pounds? I know no reputable doctor would even consider surgery for that tiny amount of weight.
Are you attending support group meetings? It is very important to go now, and continue to go. If you do not have a local group, please look for an active online group that will help you adjust to what your new body and accept what is "perfect" for you.
   All my best to you!
Susan

Merrillee,

Hoping the 2nd time is the charm for you! How long ago did Dr Oh take out your band? I thought he was retired?

Take care,

Hello Fellow Members,

I had my surgery on the 21st of March 2011 ( 1 yr 6mo out) at Madigan Army Hospital and I was doing pretty good with the weight loss until we moved to VA. Now I am stuck at 175 lbs (optimal weight is 160-155) even though I watch what I eat and I exercise 5 days a week for at least 45 Min. Sometimes I am having a difficult time exercising because of my seasonal allergies (did not have them in WA) that I am suffering from in the State of Virginia (I have been on allergy medicine for a while). My Primary Care Provider has not a lot of experience/knowledge with Bariatric surgery but he said that sometimes it happens that the pouch was left to big and this could stop any further weight loss.
Anybody having the same problem?
I was thinking about applying for a second surgery after my 2 yr anniversary to see if they could create a smaller pouch. Has anybody been approved by TRICARE Prime for a 2nd LGB? How hard/easy is it to get that approval?
Thank you for your help!

Newest twist:
Saw a different PA last appointment (last week) who told me that if I'm diagnosed with sleep apnea,  I HAVE to be on a cpap machine before surgery or the Dr. won't do it.   I had the  little overnight home test for sleep apnea as part of the gigantic feat of medical testing I had last spring, and though it said (I thought) I had sleep apnea, I decided not to spend the money on a machine, since surgery would be in just a few months and it would go away soon after.  The PA I saw at the time thought that was fine.... Whoops...NOT.   And NOW, according to the lady who submits to insurance, the little home test they MADE me do didn't count for anything.  I have to have had a full-on sleep study....which, fortunately I was able to do last night....and duh, I have  to get a cpap now.

ALSO, the lady who submits insurance also says that since I was a little below the 35 bmi mark when I first saw the Dr. a month before I officially entered the 6 month diet program, I now have to have another consult with him at my current bmi before she can submit....AND she wants a letter from my  primary care physician stating all my other co-morbities....diabetes, etc.

AND I thought this was going to be easy?  Whatever.  I will jump through their darn hoops.  Whatever it takes.  Sheesh.

On my way (2nd time's a charm!)

I don't go to the Swedish groups because I live in the south sound, and they are just too far.

Topic: Dr. Sarah E. McMillan?
Hello Washingtonians!

Just curious... Have any of you gone with, or had a consultation, with Dr. Sarah E. McMillan? She is located in Kirkland, just outside Seattle, I believe...

If so, or you know of anyone who used her for plastic surgery... What were your thoughts & impressions? I'm just looking for some information in regards to her work - any information helps!
