I live in Enumclaw Washington, I am considering the Lapband Surgery, but I don't know of anyone who has had this. Would appreciate any information from someone who has had it. I know of people who have had the Gastric Bypass, so I feel I have a lot of post surgery knowledge, but would like to know more from someone who has had the Lapband. Thank you.

Been there, done that! I had my lap band surgery in Oct. 2005 and have lost about 30 pounds (started at 426). Its definately true that you lose weight much more slowly with the band than some of the other surgeries. I was out of the hospital the morning after surgery. I've not had any problems and have had three fills so far. My doctor, Dr. Jay Jan, was great! Here's his website: http://www.oregonweightlosssurgery.com/ If you have more questions (or more specific questions), let me know. If your questions are general, you may want to check out the lap band forum: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/posts.html Lori

Hey Melody! Welcome to the board! I hope you get some answers to your questions here. But if you don't, there is also a lapband board on here. I am NOT trying to chase you away at all. I just wanted you to know that you might find some answers over there too! Good Luck!!!! Lori Here is the link to the Lap Band Forum: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/

Hi Melody, I am going to Tiajuana on Sunday to have my LAPBAND surgery (on Monday) with Dr. Kuri. I am SELF-PAY so the prices in Mexico were much more attractive to me than up here. PLUS the doctors (some of them-- like Dr. Kuri) are more experienced than those here in the states--because the procedure has been done more in Mexico than here in the states. I chose Dr. Kuri, who is one of the most experienced, (although he is a bit more expensive) based on research of other doctors. I got the best response from him, and his record is better than others. He is also listed on the OH site, I think you look for south-of the border doctors... He works with a number of doctors in the area, so that you are not required to return to Mexico for every fill (although all fills are free in Mexico -- you just pay for the flouroscopy that he and his team use with every fill-- unlike most doctors here in the states. Dr. Kuri and his team also provide a great support system for their patients, that I haven't found for any other doctor! From what I understand the LAPBAND is not as invasive as bypass, it takes longer to lose the weight, but tends to work longer (as long as you have a good fill and follow the rules), it is also "reversible" if there are severe problems. I will of course be able to tell you more after next Monday! Good Luck on your journey. You are taking the right first step! Kelly
