Has anyone self payed for the doctor but used dshs for hospital?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has self paid for the doctor portion of the surgery but used state for the hospital portion of the surgery. The reason for this is that the wait list for state pay surgery is at least 1 1/2 years. My doctor said his share was $4500 plus the assistant surgeon and anesthesiologist. If I could do it this way, I could have my surgery soon. Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of DSHS do you have? Is it through Medicare? I have Medicare with Medicaid as secondary, and since Medicaid is secondary, they are required to follow Medicare's guidelines for WLS, and Medicare does not require pre-approval. Just thought I'd ask since in MY experience (we may have different coverage) there is no 'wait list'. Hope you get the info you need soon!! Cindy in Wenatchee
