I am not sure about after surgery since I have not had it yet, but I have to take one 50,000 IU pill a week. I will have to do this until my Vit. D level is within the normal range. This was not something that I found out while looking into WLS, but rather when my Doctor wanted me to have lab work done for other reasons. I am on my third eight week supply. I have learned that it is not uncommon for most people to have a Vit. D deficiency. Many people just don't know it.

I have to take 50.000 DAILY!

My labs show that my vitamin D levels are fine, not sky high, so I guess I really do need all that.

However, I did have a medial bypass, so I have bigger malabsorption issues than the regular proximal RNY.

I was told I  would need up to 50,000 IU per day also - and am currently awaiting the lab results to find out exactly what my dosage will be.  Not only do we all need the Vitamin D, but the D helps with calcium absorption too....

Did you check with your surgeon's office and see what they have to say?

best,

Yes!  Make sure it's the D3...and I just read a study last week that states if you are getting sick take like 100,000IU then no more for about 1 month to ward off the sickness.  I work in healthcare and we do a VIt D "party" once a month.  They take it with an ice cream something or something fatty. We have had hardly any sickness this year.  It's quite amazing!

I delivered 6 weeks early a 5lb 15oz lil boy:)  After spending 2 months on bed rest in the hospital and Mason spending 11 days in the NICU, we're both home and doing great!  Mason is getting bigger and gaining weight like he should.  Now it's my turn to lose this weight!  It's tough to get back on the band wagon...I CAN do this!
