My Mom has advanced emphysema . She hasn't smoked in 15 years , when she had Breast cancer . She had a lung reduction approx. 6 years ago . She has had a bad winter . She hadn't felt well since Thanksgiving time . She had gone to the doctors (a new one) & got medicine , but no xray . She now has a different new doctor . She used to go to Madigan , but the military are now making her go to Multicare , through Tri-care , for specialists . About three weeks ago she had to be put in the hospital . She had Pneumonia . I was so scared . She had to go back in (Good Sam) on Thursday afternoon . She now has a different strain of Pneumonia & has Congestive heart failure . She is almost 69 . This is so scary for me . I'm the one that "handles" things , in the family . My son & his girlfriend live with my mom . They have been a blessing to her , despite being slobs . So , my computer use , lately , has been sporadic , at best . Sometimes I check on people , but don't post . I'm just hoping she gets over it this time . And that the heart failure can be managed . I'm not ready to lose her . I don't know if you can ever be ready . I lost my dad almost 11 years ago & it seems like yeaterday .

Kathy I will keep you and your Mom in my thoughts.  I just wanted to tell you that I know many people who lived a long time with CF.  It is mostly finding a good regimen of medication and some healthy habits.  If you come across any problems finding the medications she needs let me know, I work in a pharmacy so I have more resources than most.  (ie drug programs).

Take care of yourself, even with all that is going on in your life, you still need to be a priority.

Thanks , Jillian . Right now , I guess the biggest problem is that she has too much Carbon Dioxide in her blood . She has to wear an A-Pap mask . Also , the Prednisone has raised her blood sugar very high . I never knew that Prednisone did that , until she was hospitalized last time . She's just really worn out from the infections  , Emphysema & the Carbon Dioxide . It's scary seeing you Mom that way . My uncle's wife suggested that she take coQ-10 & fish oil for her heart , when she gets out . What's your take on that ? My D-I-L is a Cardiac care nurse . She said she'll likely have to take a Beta blocker , a diuretic , & be on a low sodium , fluid restricted diet . I just hope that she gets feeling better , soon . Thanks for the encouragement , Jillian .
