Do VA Mason surgeons do hernia repair post op? I went to a WLS seminar where the surgeon talked about doing hernia repair and removal of excess skin as a part of the hernia repair... this was several years ago, and I'm not sure if this was surgeon-specific or what. Does it also matter what kind of insurance I have on how much hernia repair is covered/included? I have Uniform.

Hernia repair and removal of excess skin are separate procedures and can be done during the same surgery.  I would think that the hernia repair has a much higher likelyhood of being covered by insurance than excess skin removal.

If you are asking if a Virginia Mason surgeon would fix a hernia and remove extra skin and only bill for the hernia... no.  Usually a plastic surgeon will remove the excess skin and if the hernia is small ... the plastic surgeon may repair the hernia or have a general surgeon repair the hernia.

I hope this helps...

Helen
