Topic: RE: 4 weeks post op trouble

I am a little over a year post sleeve and have been nauseous and vomiting. It may not be sleeve related but I am not sure. I had a brief weight loss stall during my second month post op but things turned around not too long after. Don't give up!

Topic: Has anyone here had complications long-term?

I am a little over a year post sleeve and am wondering if anyone here has experienced complications after a year out? If so, what were your complications if you don't mind sharing? I am feeling especially nauseous and have been vomiting.

this is the notorious 3 week stall, a week late for you. It is normal, many of us had it and it won't be the last one. There will be many as your body adjusts but if you stay on plan the loss will start again.

cpnstipation can cause nausea. You need to address that ASAP. Call your surgeons after hours line for advice. Many of us useMirslac(generic form is fine) to move the condtipation then use it and or stool softeners regularly to keep moving.
do not take any fiber right now. It will only make the constipation you hAve now, worse.

you will be able to drink once you move your bowels.
don't wait, start treSting the constipTion TODAY

Search the site for "3 week stall." It happens to everyone, just hang in there! Constipation is due to a high protein diet. Take Miralax once a day and it will help a lot. You may be nauseous if you aren't getting in enough water, and you're dealing with excess stomach acid. You HAVE to get at least 32 oz of water in every day, minimum. Sip constantly, sometimes that's the only way to get it in. But the last thing you want is to get dehydrated, it can cause a host of serious health problems. We've all gone through the tough first few weeks, so just push through. It's all worth it in the end!

Topic: RE: connection between sleeve surgery and motor neuron disease / ALS?

I can't speak to any connection but you may want to check out the forums on ALS (alsforums.com/community). There is a lot of good information and support to be had there. My mom passed away from ALS in 2017 and I found the site to be very helpful. There are people who believe that nutrition plays a role in slowing disease progression and there is a lot of specific nutrition guidance available (watch out for the snake oil). Maintaining nutrition and weight is important in ALS because eventually swallowing is effected and getting enough nutrition is an issue. A feeding tube can help with this - my mom had a feeding tube because her speech and swallowing was effected earlier. She was walking until the end. I'm so sorry for your family's hardship.

Topic: Surgery was approved! Not everyone in my life is excited

Hi all,

My surgeon's office submitted to my insurance for approval on Monday, and surprisingly they received a letter the next day saying it was approved! Even though the office told me I should be fine, I was surprised that it happened so quick. I have been going back and forth with this decision for the last 2 years but in July decided this is what I what I want to do for my health and my happiness. It has been kind of hard telling all of my friends and family about this because I know how some of them feel about it. I've had some friends and family tell me they don't think I need it, and that I shouldn't do it. Just a little background I am 27 5'2 I weigh 240 and have been overweight pretty much my whole life. I have tried dieting and exercising but I barely lose weight. If I lose any I gain it back pretty soon. I am aware of what I am doing to my body and that the surgery isn't a magical fix. I already have to mentally prepare myself to work out and eat right, but it would be easier if I had the support of everyone close to me. I guess I am wondering if you all experienced the same thing, and how you've been able to look past the stigma of people thinking you're "cheating" or having people tell you to work out instead?

Cathie, thank you. I don't plan to deviate one bit from the surgeon's plan for me, but we all know life happens, but sticking with advice here and at the surgeon's office, I feel like I'm in good hands!
