Topic: RE: connection between sleeve surgery and motor neuron disease / ALS?

Hello, I ran across this thread because Im having VSG surgery in 3 weeks and was doing research for myself, however my father in law had gastric bypass surgery several years ago and after about 1 1/2 yrs post surgery he was diagnosed with an ALS type condition. He was never fully diagnosed because they couldnt figure out what was causing it but it mimicked ALS. I have no idea if he was malnourished or not. Unfortunately we just attended his funeral 4 days ago. He had about 1 good year after his symptoms emerged before he started infusions. He survived for 10 yrs before the Infusion's stopped working. Was wheel chair bound and unable to feed himself at the end. So sorry for your brother and what he's going through. I sure hope they find a connection! I believe you may be onto something. I always thought that was weird myself.

Topic: Pre surgery jitters!!!

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had the pre surgery cold feet? Im not afraid of the change or commitment to what will be my new normal, what scares me the most is all the horror stories I've read.....

Leaks, dumping, ulcers, acid refux, nausea, unable to keep food down, serious complications etc....

If there is anyone out there that can help me see that this is all just ME faking myself out and I really have nothing to worry about and those situations are very rare. Please reply.

I'm having VSG surgery this month on the 20th and I'm scared something will go wrong. Ugggg.

if you're interested, you're always welcome to join the RNY menu thread. We post our menus every day. And we welcome VSG'ers. They used to have their own menu thread but now only the RNY one remains - we do have a couple of VSG'ers who have joined us.

Ok -

so I made a plan and I'm trying to tell myself baby steps - you see Hubby and I moved to a community 2 years ago it's like living on vacation everyday

we play games a friends house - we drink wine and appetizers on the dock -

we boat- we jet ski - we golf so it is super hard to put unreal expectations on myself so rather than giving up and throwing in the towel on my first day I'm instead going to say what I did ok and each day will get better and easier -

so I started off with my morning tea

lunch I had a protein shake

dinner I was suppose to have a shake again but hubby grilled a filet minon ugh and cauliflower

so I ate about a inch cube of steak and couple florets of cauliflower had water to drink

was still hungry a couple hours later so I ate three jalapeño stuffed green olives lol

not too terrible and the he scale today came down one pound

wish me luck report back tomorrow ???

My goal weight is 136. The day after Christmas I was 155. Up 5 in a week. I gave myself until Memorial Day to lose it again. Today I am 135. I exercise almost everyday and attend Weigh****chers online daily. Also weigh daily. Make your plan and stick to it.

Hey Yall -

Im back !!!!!!! Why you ask after all this time well I need to get back to basics

and accountability. I moved to Tennessee 2 years ago and have since put on

TEN pounds which I believe now is why they call this gorgeous state TENnessee lol

Anyway I did really well my lowest and most comfortable weight was 135 i didnt mind

fluctuating around 135 TO 140 HECK I was even comfortable at 143 but today after not weighing

regularly I stepped on the scale and it said 153 ------- Oh hell no I am not going back there .

So i have decided to go back on protein shakes for a week then cut all carbs sugar alcohol

I really need to get back and I know the longer you keep the weight on the harder it is to get

it off - So hear I am confessing my eating sins asking for support as I come back and share how my

journey is going each day. Thanks you all this group has always helped me and I appreciate yall more

than you know.

Cheers with water of course

I recently found this site and it has helped so much in the last couple of days? I am currently on day 4 of the Pre-op diet and have been having a couple of issues.

  1. My urine has been really smelly and bright yellow (like neon) it?s kind of a weird color. I have been drinking about a half of gallon to a full gallon for the past week. So I know I?m not dehydrated. I haven?t even had my urine smell or look this way. If anyone has any suggestions or anything it would be helpful.
  2. The smell of the protein shakes are making me really nauseous. The goal is to get three down, and I am really, really struggling. I was only able to get 2 down today, and that was really rough. I have tried watering down the protein shakes so the smell and taste isn?t as strong. It helps so I can get it down. Any suggestions would be helpful? I?m not sure why it?s making me feel so nauseous and sick.
  3. Any suggestions going into this for skin retention and tightening?

Thanks in advance!

try drinking the shake with a straw from a closed top container. If you can't smell it as much you may not be able to taste it as much.

Hi!

They have me taking a calcium and b vitamin, and then a multi vitamin right now. That's good to know it's just my body flushing it out. I was getting worried. ð??...

The only shakes the doctors recommended was the celebrate meal replacement shakes. So I don't really know if what I should look for. I think I probably need to call the nutritionist and see if I can do anything else...

I guess I kind of know that I will probably end up having to get surgery for lose skin. I just don't really want to do more surgeries then I need to. I also am unsure because I haven't had kids yet but would like to. If it would be counter productive to even get surgery to tighten the skin to get pregnant after.

Thank you for responding! I really appreciate all the advice.
