Thank you for your reply! It surely can't hurt and my regular doctor recommended it long before surgery.
That ... is not recommended! I can't even imagine trying to do that and I would be terrified of tearing something open at that point!

Yes, I use one as we, too, don't (or rarely) eat fish - the current one is a 1400mg gelcap - so it seems like a reasonable way to mitigate whatever shortage there may be.
The required supplement that the surgeon gives you is just an initial baseline, and is in addition to whatever you needed before surgery - if you were short on D, B12 or whatever and supplemented it prior to surgery, then you should continue doing so irrespective what the surgeon's program adds to it, at least until subsequent labs tell you otherwise. Likewise, what is recommended by the surgeon is just your starting point, and should be adjusted accordingly as labs and later diet dictate.

I'm a little over 3 years post-op and am experiencing reactive hypoglycemia. I had low blood sugar problems before surgery but it's gotten worse. My surgeon tells me it's not and is suggesting keto and wrote me a prescription for metformin, which I'm hesitating to take. Thankfully, my PCP wrote me a prescription for a continuous glucose monitor (Freestyle LibreLink, which is awesome... no finger *****s!) and after only a few days it's confirmed what I already knew. Numbers are stable but after I eat, they drop and have even been low with no overt symptoms -- which may explain struggles with anxiety. I'm afraid I've been living this way for quite some time which worries me. I also have a very high-stress job and am tired all the time, so I'm wondering if adrenals are compromised.
Anyway, I've learned from reading information here that it's a misunderstood condition and believe I have to seek another doctor. Anyone in the Boston area has recommendations for HCPs or any links to sites or books that might help me become more educated about this?
Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa

Thanks for your input. I am honest with myself. I don't eat very much because I have to drink 6 glasses of potassium daily. That fills me so I usually don't even eat breakfast. The journal will definitely help me to keep track of my caloric intake.

Hey fellow kids!
I just looked up and realized 2 years have flown by since I last posted anything. Crazy.
In the meantime... I've kept my weight very steady, same weight as 2 years ago so that's good! Looks like a few of the peeps I hung with while I was getting started are still hanging out here... "HI to all of you!"
This summer my cycling team and I ramped it up a notch and raced in the "Race Across America, " a three-thousand mile bike race from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD. Our 8-person team completed the distance in 6 days, 10 hours and 59 minutes, earning a respectable fourth-place finish. Not bad for a bunch an average age of 55!
I also retired from my job, after selling my company I worked for the acquirer for nearly three years. We relocated to the Palm Springs, CA area, and love it. We've been popping over to Europe once in a while to beat the heat of the desert.
Still so so so glad I did this.
Tom
