Topic: Fast tracked to surgery!

My dr called me yesterday and asked if I could come in sooner than my sept 11th appointment. I am off today, so I went in. AND WALKED OUT WITH A SURGERY DATE!!?!?! Yep, Sept 19th! I start my preop diet on Sunday. (Because I have plans to be out of town on Friday ?) I'm having a lot of conflicting emotions right now. I called my mom and let her know, of course. But everyone else I tried to call/text didn't answer. Just makes me realize that everyone is busy with their own lives until they need me. Anyway. I'm so excited/terrified. I'm extremely blessed for this to be happening quickly. I hope every one of you guys is having an awesome day too!

Rocking size 14 jeans since I can remember. Still have the same restriction I had 8 months out. Eat tiny amounts of whatever I want. Crave protein- not a fan of sugar. Have density issues so easy to avoid bread and pasta- sits too heavy on my stomach.

Been a long time since I checked in- just wanted everyone to see that success is possible if you follow the rules

Hi! I am drinking crystal light in my water, and it makes it easier to consume.

I think it will be great if you create a post about all those bypass misconceptions.

I developed severe GERD about 8 months after my VSG. Like 409% higher than normal severe. I never had a jistory of heatburn prior to surgery. I revised from VSG to RNY on 7/1/2016. My surgeon told me that he will not perform VSG on patients with diagnosed GERD or Reflux and if the patient insists, he tells them to find another doctor. My advice? If you have a history of heartburn, go with RNY. I get that there are many who had their heartburn resolve after VSG, but I think they're the lucky ones in the minority. It was seriously no fun developing lesions on my esophagus and on certain days only being able to eat crackers because my acid was so bad.

Good luck with whatever surgery you decide on!!

Topic: RE: Addicted to Diet Coke

I miss my favorite root beer and occasionally get a sip, but just do it and see vs. fear it. I honestly don't miss it on a daily basis (just when I think about how great it was, ahhhhh). Same can be said about my old friend - entire chocolate cake, entire pizza, entire half gallon of ice cream and those wondrous days I ate all that as a snack. But then I think what life was like during those wondrous days. I couldn't walk to the bathroom at work so requested a formal placement next to the restroom (don't you think HR had some odd employment conversations with that one as that request required Corporate Officer approval), DVT/PE emergency room visit, Falling 4 or 5 times a year due to balance issues and not being able to catch my weight if it shifted forward, other medical ailments like HBP, diabetes...... I could go on and on, but living the 8XL life wasn't worth those wonderous feelings. Decide now, what you are willing to give up and find other things to replace them.

P.S. I've heard from chemists in my bariatric support group that even "flat" coke has enough CO2 to impact our systems. So if you are going through all this, I have to ask why sabotage yourself.

thank you. I think the GERD issue would be my biggest worry. I don't have any issues with getting heartburn ever but I see that GERD can become an issue after this surgery.
