Had my robotic VSG w/bonus hernia repair (had no idea I had a hernia) this morning at 7:30. Got up to walk and potty right when I got back to room. Walking was surprisingly easy? I had "braced myself" for major pain(knocking on my table lol) I'm feeling more of the gas pain now. Passed a giant scale on my walk, in what seemed to be a vacant wing of the hospital (lol) and argued with myself but kept truckin. Didn't want to see how much surgery itself made me gain but still kinda curious lol. May step on it in my next go round. My incisions are not causing too much discomfort. I do have a pretty gnarly headache. My dr did not do pain pump. Just alternating toradol and Percocet. I braced myself for the pill swallowing pain too, but it slid on down. I'm pretty scared all the pain I'm not feeling will hit me at once when I'm by myself at home :-/ or HOPEFULLY I just won't experience much pain. Weirder things have happened right? lol I can't believe I really got this done. I'm so excited and feel so blessed.

Bougie size does not completely determine the size of your sleeve. A surgeon can use a 36 and stitch tight to the guide, or use a 32 and go a bit looser, and both sleeves would effectively have the same capacity.

Realistically, the difference between a 34 and a 36, volume-wise, is about one bite.

Topic: RE: Hair falling out.....again

Maybe a good idea to see a doctor. Hair falling out may be an indication that something is off. It can be diet, hormonal changes, or something as simple as "just because" - as some docs try to tell us.. when they have no clue what is happening.

You did not have any surgery in the last 4-5 months? Post surgical hair loss is well-known and I'd is caused by surgery stress on the body.

A long time ago I followed Atkins type diet. And that included soy. Soy proteins, soy milk, etc. The Atkins diet and soy affected my hair, I started seeing hair falling out. Detailed blood work showed symptomatic hypothyroid. My TSH was normal - high, but my T4 and T3 were both low, below normal. Plus I had other typical hypothyroid symptoms, like being tired, feeling cold, having very heavy periods...etc... Some soy products - like soy proteins, soy milk, tofu, etc. can bind to iodine in our system and make us iodine deficient. Our thyroid needs iodine. T4 and T3 are build from iodine.

When I stopped all soy proteins, and supplemented more natural iodine (seaweed) within 6 months I started feeling better.

Mine is a 40 bougie. I lost to my first goal (high normal) but can't seem to get lower then that. I still have restriction but can eat a good amount more now at almost 2 years out. The surgery never really decreased my hunger as much as I would have hoped. And now seems excessively high but the restriction and my watching what I'm putting in my mouth is helping me not to gain it all back. At some point people can eat a lot more you just have to be careful what you eat. I'm okay with the size of my bougie and the amount I can eat. I just wish my appetite was more suppressed. I doubt that has anything to do with bougie size.

Have you been dieting? I started losing my hair again a couple of months after I got frustrated with the scale not moving and decreased my calorie intake to about 800 a day. I only did it for about a month but it was enough to trigger hair loss again. It's been about 3 months of losing hair and it still hasn't stopped. Very distressing. I'm about 21 months after surgery.

Increased hair loss does occur naturally in cycles. But I'm sure mine is in excess of what's normal during a cycle. You are likely aware of normal cycle loss as well. Hopefully it will improve for both of us soon. Best of luck.

About three months ago and everything was fine. I suppose things could have changed since then.

I am taking a multivitamin and it seems to be both old hair and the new.

It would be simple enough to try vitamin E and drinking an extra protein shake a day. Thanks.

Thankfully no I dont have to lose before surgery. As long as I dont gain he is happy. I have been trying to make healthier choices so I dont gain. I have already dropped sodas which is good and hard cause Dr Pepper was my weakness lol.
