I just quit discussing it with people, got the surgery, and told them about it after I got home from the hospital.
There is a risk of complications, so you do need to be aware of what could happen. Most people only regret not doing it sooner.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Hi! I am 5'3.5"and weigh 219 lbs. Most of my life I was thin 120's. During late 40's gained weight rapidly and still going. Tried many diets and unable to lose weight. I wanted to have the sleeve but due to my GERD, high cholesterol, fatty liver and sleep apnea my doctor wants me to gget the bypass. Family and friends trying to talk me out of it saying I am not big enough and too many risks/complications? I have all my appointments made and have my heart set on the surgery. Any advice!
Congrats! I'm jealous as hell. I'm trying to get off BP med as well. I cut the dosage in half (from 10mg to 5mg) and I'm still at 120/78. Which, is good but because of the medicine. Congrats again!
Well I have a big health win to report. I had been struggling with elevated blood pressure for a while. I have always been hesitant about starting medication. With the weight gain and not being mindful of what I already knew what I was ingesting were key factors. Lifestyle modifications needed to happen. Anyway for those that have been following my updates you I've got back on track and made some changes. I can say for a month now my systolic numbers went from 140's to low 100's and my diastolic numbers 90's to low 60's. This morning my BP is 106/62. I am so pumped. Can't wait for my yearly exam next month to see my lab results for lipid panel and A1C.
I saw my nutritionist yesterday for my first post-op visit. I'm down almost 20 lbs since surgery! She blessed me moving onto soft solids yesterday, which I was SO excited about. Every bite of solids was a revelation. Definitely (finally) feeling full after 2 oz of actual food. Bless. Overall I am feeling really good. Very minimal pain, Thank you all for your patience and support as I adjust to my new life!
Hi - I'm 4 years post op. Taking vitamins daily is critical as well as having your vitamin levels checked by your GP every six months. We don't absorb vitamins as well post surgery and we are vulnerable to iron deficiencies which can be very serious. I also still check in every 6 months with a dietician at the Bariatric clinic I went through and this helps so much.
Supplement Daily Dosage Schedule
Adult Multivitamin and Mineral with iron - Centrum prenatal multivitamin/mineral ?Kirkland Prenatal multivitamin
1 Bedtime
Calcium citrate Kirkland Signature Calcium Plus with Vitamin D3 & minerals
Jamieson Mega Cal Calcium Mini-Tab ?Equate Calcium Citrate + D
500-600 mg twice daily
1 at breakfast and 1 at lunch (do not take both at the same time- your body can only absorb so much at once)
Vitamin D (drops, chewable, or tablets) Vitamin B12 (sublingual or tablet)
I also need this. However, I am 5 yrs post op. Struggling. I feel as if it takes more to get full.. Havent taken vitamins though. Need to find some that don't make me nauseous.
I take flintstones chewable and have no issues with nausea or stomach pain from them like I did others.
No regrets whatsoever! I am 2 years and 7 months out, 112 pounds down and weight is at 132. I feel great, told that I look amazing and wouldn't change things for the world. My only regret was not doing it sooner!!
