I'm not a long-term person but wanted to let you know that the most active board on here is the RNY board. They welcome folks with any surgery type and there are a couple of sleevers who participate.

If you're interested in support, there's a pretty active daily menu thread people post to. A good number of folks there are 5+ years post surgery and give great feedback and advice.

I totally understand your concern about quitting vaping before surgery. It's great that you quit cigarettes, and it's definitely worth it to quit vaping too. Have you considered trying chewing gum or sucking on hard candy or mints as a substitute for your vape? These could help satisfy your oral fixation without leading to overeating. You could also try drinking water or herbal tea to keep your mouth occupied. I hope this helps! Hi, my 27 year old son is 5 weeks out from sleeve surgery & large hernia repair. He's done well with recovery other than some intermittent vomiting after eating. We thought maybe he was eating too much, too fast & not chewing his food thoroughly. It concerned me enough to contact his doctor. I had the sleeve back in 2011 & never remember having vomiting like he's had. His bariatric surgeon ordered an Upper GI with contrast. It shows abnormal esophageal motility & a severe spasm at the GE junction. No reflux or hernia noted. He had significant acid reflux prior to surgery. Doctor is going to do an endoscopy on him next week. I guess the technician/doctor at his upper GI said he had narrowing of the esophagus & would most likely need dilation. But his report reads that his esophagus is normal in caliber? So I'm confused. Has anyone else experienced this? Please help because I'm really worried.

I am not a doctor but when I had my hiatal hernia repair I had what they called a stricture and my food was not going into my stomach fast enough causing escopgile spasm. Call your Dr they may have to dialate the opening of your hiatus.

I had VSG 3/27/23 with hiatal hernia repair. My left shoulder hurts up into my neck bad any time I get air in my esophagus. Sometimes it just aches. Will it ever stop? The other surgery pains are diminishing pretty fast and I feel weak but ok otherwise. Is this normal?
