I'm good! I'm venturing into keto eating after putting on more weight that I was comfortable with over the holidays. So far so good, I love it and it's working. How are you?

In 2014, I purchased a Garmin Index scale on the day they started selling them. Having that smart scale has made such a big difference. When I get on the scale, I get my weight, my BMI, my muscle weight, my fat weight, my water weight, and my bone weight.

When there is movement up or down, I know what actually happened. I don't get upset if I gained two pounds of water. I do get upset if I gained fat. I am happy if muscle increased. I know what to expect from my dexa scans because I monitor my bone density every day.

I don't think that exercise helps that much with weight. For me the weight is determined by how much I eat. What exercise does is makes my body look much better. I do most of my exercise in the water. One girl at our pool lost 100 pounds and her only exercise was water walking for an hour a day.

The pool is an incredible place to exercise because you get the benefit of resistance from the water and you do not get pain like you would doing the same amount of exercise on land. I did buy a very good pair of water shoes when I started having knee pain from water aerobics. That was twelve years ago and my knees have improved a lot.

I get lots of support from this board. Even though you had VSG, you can post on the RNY daily menu thread. It will keep you accountable and give you ideas for meals. Hope you join us there.

I had VGS Nov 20, 2019 and I was extremely sleeping and fatiqued. I have had many surgeries in the past but never felt so tired as I did after VGS. Rest, rest and rest! I tired to fight it but my body demanded it. I couldn't stay away longer than 10 mins for a solid week. I was weak and shaky. (Hypoglycemic too). Even my voice was weak lol. After 2 and half weeks I was fine. So if you can rest , go with it. It's from the liquid diet before hand and afterwards. Drink your protein too.

I was 59 years old when I had my VSG on Sept 26,2011. My goal weight was 175 lbs. Made that in 10 months. Now I'm 67 and weighed 178 lbs this morning. Not worried about the 3 lbs. I'm walking the golf course in the summer and sweeping hard at the curling rink in the winter. Life is good and I feel great.

The first month was very hard, the next 5 months were difficult. After that it was much easier. Surround yourself with loved ones and supportive friends. My very best wishes to all who make this journey.

Hi my name is Lorraine and I'm on the Big Island of Hawaii. I've had my gastric sleeve last February and have lost 63 pounds thus far. I could have lost a few more but I went overboard 3 times and had to reset and get back on track again. My mind "thinks" I'm eating too little but in essence it's the correct amount. I dread the scale these days cause if there's a gain I start to feel down and that don't help. I haven't really done any formal exercise as yet due to having severe back pain and knee pains that have just started to ease up some. I plan to go to the gym to walk on the treadmill and start to go to the pool for walking in the water back and forth for 30 min. I know if I can incorporate this more weight can come off. I'm only 5 feet so i think another 25 pounds or so should do it for me. I started off at 225 at surgery day. Glad to have found this group. Hoping people of like minds would be a help when I'm stalled and get a few ideas for some easy fast recipes. Nice to meet you all.

Lorraine

IMO you will be more satisfied (hungerwise), ingest fewer calories and carbs, and get more protein, from eating chicken breast than drinking a protein shake. Chicken, turkey, and fish are your friends right now, just don't dredge them in flour and deep fry them or anything like that!

After I recovered from open heart surgery in 2016, I got down to my goal weight, but was very weak and my muscles had disappeared. My calves were just little hanging flaps of skin on the back of my legs. I needed to exercise to build my muscles back.

I did the exercise at the hospital therapy center wearing a heart monitor. Within a month, my muscles were back but I also put on an extra 10 pounds. I decided to just accept that extra weight because I felt strong and healthy.

But that extra 10 slowly turned to an extra 30 by the beginning of 2019. It was hard to walk for any distance at all and when I would try to exercise I would end up with terrible muscle pain and cramps. In January of 2019, I joined Weigh****chers online program. By June I was back down to being 10 pounds over goal. I felt great and quit the program.

On Wednesday morning, I weighed in at 19 pounds over my goal and signed up for Weigh****chers again. I am following the program and this time plan to get to goal by June. After weight loss surgery, my weight still depends on what I eat and exercise can cause me to gain.
