10 years ago I had the VSG
I've been thinking a lot about how it has been 10 whole years since I had my sleeve done so I thought I'd do an update. I was always curious on how ppl were doing years down the road. I had my VSG with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali in October of 2010. Surgery went well.
My starting weight was 282 and my lowest around 127. I stayed at 150 for years (my sweet spot, size 6) and just over the last 18 months have gone up to 170. The reason has been less activity due to nursing school, a bad relationship, and eating junk. That said, I lose easily if I go back to low carb. I am having a problem with reflux. If I don't take my meds I can be up all night choking on acid. I had plastics around 7 years ago (ish) in New Jersey.
I'm grateful everyday for my surgeries and they really have changed my life. Incase you are wondering, I can eat normal portions now but I'm not hungry all the time like I was before. That probably has more to do with carbs than anything. Since my surgery I've gotten a divorce, raised two kids who are now teens, had so much fun, traveled, and have done all kinds of active sports. I am now an RN and work with bariatric patient's pretty often. That's my update, wishing all the best of luck.
You had an extreme amount of weight loss and keeping more than 100 pounds off at ten years is much more than the average person does. We all deal with life events and for me, they do not affect my weight. Mine is totally dependent on what I eat
I had RNY and have had problems with reflux. I would not wish that on anyone. I refuse to take the meds, so treat it with baking soda. My doctor has prescribed a sodium bicarbonate tablet that I take twice a day.
I am 13 years out and can also eat normal portions most of the time. I tell myself that my life is always going to involve being on a diet. I weigh myself daily and track my food carefully. I have seen too many people have massive amounts of regain, so stay forever watchful.
Congratulations on a good ten years.
