10 yrs out - Reset Pouch - Dietician Instructions, very confused

Hi everyone,

So I have fought with 20 - 40 lbs for the last 6 years. I am in need to finish my journey and I am so tired of fighting with the scales. Ten years ago I weighed in at 298 lbs and had my surgery and was very successful by dropping down to 189 lbs.

Tuesday I decided to go to a dietician to get a well balanced meal plan so that I could lose my weight and relearn what a healthy plate looks like. I thought she would help me balance my carbs, protein and veggies to have a normal plate. Nay nay. She placed me on a reset diet which means I have to drink all liquids for two weeks (WHAT!!!!) Lol so for the last four days I have done just that. I am down 7 lbs but not satisfied in the least. I am not sure I can make it 14 days with just three protein drinks, broth and water.

Anyway, my confusion comes from my research. I have seen so much regarding reset and no where do I see that we need to go back to strict liquids for two weeks. Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The ignorance is real and still calls itself a professional!

Dense protein, healthy fats and carbs (in the form of dairy and vegetables only) is the healthy, sustainable way to lose regain.

Log EVERYTHING that passes your lips in something like MyFitnessPal. Aim for exercise to keep you healthy (don't add back exercise calories). I aim for 10k steps per day minimum.

YMMV, but I lost 60lbs last year by doing this and have maintained that loss for over a year.

THAT'S the only reset you need!

I will be 6 years out in December and I have regained 40 lbs. I am actually considering doing what your dietician did, going back to protein shakes for 2 weeks to kind of reset my brain (more than my stomach) I guess (and maybe she thinks too) that going restrictive will help you get in the right mindset to then relook at what you are eating. After the way I have become accustomed to eating (lots of carbs and crap) I think it would be hard to just cut back. I hope that he/she is willing to work with you after the two weeks to provide you with the plan for going forward. I know if I don't come up with a solid plan for after the two weeks than I will be right back. Good luck to you and I hope you get the additional information from the nutritionist that you were hoping for.

Hmm not sure where you got the idea that I was unhappy with anyone's advice. In fact I didn't even ask for any advice since my post last year. There are a number of people, dieticians and doctors who suggest going back to basics like shakes for a short period of time so it is not completely unheard of that it was the suggestion given to the original poster. Thanks for the good wishes though. We all need the good vibes ?

Your first reply was to me and not the OP - that's what gave me the impression you were not happy with the contrary advice I gave the OP.

I never wish anyone other than success, whatever path they choose. I know you have been trying to lose your regain for a while, which must be very frustrating.

As I said, I lost 60lbs last year, I understand what it takes to lose many years after surgery and I hope that your chosen method of liquid fasting works for you this time.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to cut back on my protein drinks and had two yesterday and a nice dish of eggs and veggies with an amazing avocado. Today I was only hungry for one protein drink and I had dinner (I didn't get to it until lunch time). Eggs again for dinner because yesterday was so good :)

I agree with you and your advice was exactly what I needed. I am looking forward to my lifestyle changes. I feel like my tummy is reset and my hunger is curbed from all the nasty carbs.

Onward I go.....

I feel like the 'pouch reset" is bullsht. It should be called "liquid fasting"..That's all it is. Which is great when you are about to have part of your stomach removed for WLS..But when you are doing it without being forced too the chances of getting discouraged and cheating and binging are high..I hope you can do it and the quick weight loss motivates you. But for a person with binge eating disorder(like me) This would be a red flag.
