I missed 3 days of weighing (just busy mornings with doctor appointments etc) and when I got on this morning I was up TEN pounds! Aagh!

I have had a med change, and looked it up and sure enough, side effectts can be sudden gain. So with doctor's permission going off

Will drop calories, increase protein, push water and WALK.

Prayers appreciated. A bit upsetting.

It's got to be fluid - I don't think you could gain 10 pounds that quickly! Hopefully you can flu**** out quickly.

It takes 3500 calories above your RMR to gain a pound. So unless you've managed to pack in 35,000 calories in the past three days, your scale is just screwing with you.

If I gained 10 pounds in three days, I would check the battery in the scale.

My son gained 40lbs in 6 weeks from meds and he takes several meds now to slow/stop the gain.

He wasn't eating thousands of extra calories.

Unfortunately, the meds are necessary, so no stopping them.

I heard a doctor say that for some people, medicine makes it impossible for them to maintain their goal weight. But I did not know that weight gain could happen that fast from medicines.

Heavy duty psych drugs are notorious for it and my son's weight gain is not unusual in his peer group.

Do the drugs increase appetite or is it something different that causes the weight gain?

It can get you before you can react. I try to weigh daily in maintenance because not only I know how much my body can fluctuate, but I also can catch things like minerals loss, dehydration (I need minerals and water to fix that) and constipation. Also sudden weight gain that can't be explained with things like constipation, of carbs loading - need to be addressed before it jumps to a much higher number that could be not only depressing but also more difficult to correct.

Good luck with the new meds.
