Taking my present prescribed opiate meds before/during surgery concerns!
Well of course they know. I did tell my surgeon already and doctor. They all work together so they all know your medical history, current medication and anything else that's important for them to know. My psych, nutritionist and exercise consultant all are in same building and work under hospital. I just wanted to ask around on here to see if anyone had gone through it.
Plus my insurance requires a drug test so even if I didn't tell them it'd show up on that.
Well initially I'm going to have to have some pain meds but the days and weeks that follow I'm going to use ibuprofen which always has helped me better than let's say, Vicodin.
Hey, Kay-
I'm 8 days PO from VSG, and I've been taking Percocet 3x a day since 2007. It is noted in my chart that I take opioids and that I require A LOT more medication than normal to manage my pain especially when first waking up from surgery. In fact, they normally have to give me as much as medically allowable before they can get my pain under control. This time they gave me as much as they could, but went one step further and gave me a nerve block shot on each side of my belly. That did the trick, and my pain was manageable for the remainder of the time. It wasn't even that bad! I was just sore. I got up to my room after 5pm and was (slowly) walking and using the rest room, etc. before 6pm. Ask them about that nerve block!
I will definitely be asking about the nerve block. Thank you so much for sharing that.
