So far I'm feeling great, I haven't had any issues and the pain is all but gone (except around incision areas). I have been hitting my liquid goals and drinking protein shakes without problems. I'm down over 15lbs which is just crazy to me!

Prior to surgery, I had occasional heartburn, literally only 1-3 times per month and one tums would fix it, I usually attributed it to what I ate. I also had a hiatal hernia fixed during surgery. So I was a little nervous about VSG and GERD but so far I have had zero acid feelings. Is it too soon to know if I am in the clear? Is post VSG GERD a problem that sets in right away or can it come along at any time? My doctor did not prescribe an acid reducer. Thanks!

Glad things are going well.

Post-VSG GERD can come along at any time. I know there's at least one person on OH who didn't experience it until 4 years post-op. GERD can also be "silent," meaning that it's happening, but you don't have any of the symptoms.

But... it doesn't happen to everyone, so you might be fine :)

Man I've heard about GERD not having symptoms but I don't understand how. I've been burping a ton while I'm drinking but I heard that's normal and I'm probably not sipping right. The burps don't taste bad or acidic or anything. I guess I'll just wait and see and try to relax about it and hope for the best. Thanks!

The burping might be due to inhaling too much air when you drink - some people have better luck drinking with a straw, even though some plans have the unsupported recommendation to avoid straws. It's one of those things worth experimenting with because you might be someone who has better success with a straw than without!
