VSG United Health Care

Hello! I am insured through my husbands employer. United agreed to cover the surgery if I went through the 6 month hoopla they required. All of my info was faxed to United on Jan. 9th. How long do they generally take to give final approval? My Dr office said 2 weeks, is the general time frame, but that they have up to a month. I am going stir crazy waiting for the call.

I think what your doctor's office said is accurate. I took a bit over two weeks for my approval to come thru. It's frustrating, I know. Hang tight!!

I also had UHC with the 6 month supervised period. It was less than a week for approval, but that may depend on volume at the time? I called my coordinator at UHC after the paperwork was sent and she possibly helped out too. She actually called me and told me I was approved, so I called the surgeons office and they found the approval and scheduled my surgery for 10 days later. After all that lead time, it went fast!

How do I find out who my coordinator is? Just call and ask?

When I was pre-op, I had to work with a nurse manager from UHC's Bariatric Resource Services for the 6 month period. Perhaps your husbands policy didn't require it?

I hate it's taking so long. My ins is with Cigna and after i completed all the requirements they said it would take 4-6 weeks. They said they turned it on 1/1 and that saturday I got a call from the surgeons office that I'd been approved. It may be less of a wait time than you think.
