Dumping is very rare in VSG. Only about 30 percent of RNYers get it.

Even if you were susceptible, it's not dangerous, and doesn't last long. And the biggest thing is, it is entirely avoidable by not eating too much crap that none of us should be eating.

Thanks! i think the closer to surgery, the more my anxiety kicks in, i know this is normal but i hate it! i've had many surgeries and do not recall ever being this anxious.

My anxiety increased closer to surgery too. That's perfectly normal!

if you've had a lot of surgeries, then I think you're likely to find this one pretty easy, to be honest. I've had WAY more painful/complicated surgeries. I had RNY rather than VSG, but it was much easier than I expected.

I agree. Dumping is pretty rare for VSG from what I was told during my pre-surgery classes. However, there have been instances where I ate something that didn't agree with me and I started sweating, feeling unwell, nauseous, and disoriented.

It happened with beef and with a protein cookie. Beef was most likely too much for my new stomach and I didn't chew well enough. Protein cookie was a dumb choice because I should have chosen a lower sugar option.

So you will most likely be fine. Stay strict on your diet, eat slowly, chew your food extremely well, and try things by themselves until you know your stomach can handle that particular food.

In a way it is good to be scared about a possible dumping and avoid foods that can trigger that.

Early on, I had a horrible reaction which might have been dumping syndrome to chewable bariatric vitamins. I felt sick for hours after every time I took them. It's nothing to be freaked out about though. I don't think anyone ever dumps on healthy real food.

There are lots of high-carb, high-sugar foods that might cause an RNY'er to have trouble. There are plenty of "natural" foods that are high in fructose!
