First day of pre surgery diet. I'm a little scared
I also had a 2-week pre-op clear liquid and protein shakes diet. I won't sugar coat it...it's hard, but you can do it. The first 3 or 4 days are the worst, but you just have to put your head down and dig down and do it. Then it gets easier. I did it, and didn't cheat once...you can do it, too! Just remember...this is only 2 weeks out of your entire life, and then what a reward! You will get the surgery you want, and embark on a new path to a healthy new you!
The one thing that really got me through was good, rich beef broth! When I got super hungry, I could have some of that and it was soooo good and tasty, it really helped a lot. I suggest getting a good bone broth, they are so much richer than just regular broth. I had chicken and beef on hand all the time. I also ate a good amount of sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello.
Good luck, and keep coming here if things get rough, a whole lot of us have been where you are!
It takes 3 or 4 days to carb detox, and then it gets easier. But it's not fun.
But you're better off doing it now. Youll be forced to do liquids only right after surgery, and it's a lot harder doing it then, during recovery.
Hang in there. It's worth it.

Just got done with my pre-op diet. As long as you stay focused on your reasoning for doing it you'll do great. The only time throughout the whole thing I felt hungry was when someone was standing next to me eating popcorn. And I don't even like popcorn. Drinking 4 protein shakes a day will keep you pretty full.
Good luck on your journey. Remember that you're strong enough for this. Plus, you have an amazing support group here.

Don't like popcorn? What kind of monster are you?

I know it sounds nuts, but by 4 or 5 days in, it will get easier. The first few days are awful. I remember not being able to do much of anything and terrible brain fog and headaches. But once you get through that, you're going to be surprised. And while the post op liquid plan might be daunting (a month of liquids!?), your VSG will help you. You can do this!

Thank you all. It's been a hard choice for my husband and me mentally and financially. My blood pressure and health needed tending to. My extended family is not supportive, thinks I'm selfish because I'm self paid and that money could be used elsewhere. My son is type one diabetic. My goal is to be here a long time to make sure he has the support he needs. My doctor feels if my health is not tended to it may not allow that. It's a big comfort knowing there are others that's have jumped these hurdles and succeeded.
