Frustrated recent post-op
I'm 10 days post-op now. I realize it is *very* early in this process, I need to be patient, etc. But I'm frustrated.
I'm only 1 pound down from my surgery day weight as measured by the hospital, and actually about 4 pounds up from my surgery day weight I measured at home.
I'm off of pain medicine, have resumed normal bowel activity. I'm getting greater than 70g protein per day and less than 50g carbs a day. I'm going for walks and increasing my daily steps. I'm staying hydrated, >80oz fluid per day. I'm on the "full liquid" or stage 2 of my diet plan. I can only eat or drink 1/4 of a cup at a time, at most, without my stomach/esophagus telling me NO.
I'm looking around at expected weight losses or experienced weight losses of about 20-25 pounds the first month and wondering when is that going to start? (Fear: am I the one person that this isn't going to work for?!)
I just needed to vent.

I lost about 12 pounds in the two week "liver-shrinking diet" before surgery. Before that I had gained about 30 pounds over the last year.

This is totally normal since we get so many fluids during surgery. Most people gain weight during surgery and it can take up to 2 weeks to get back to your morning of surgery weight. Be patient, stick to the plan. Work on getting those fluids and your protein in. It'll be fine.

Thanks Gwen. It also occurred to me that I'm (at the direction of the surgeon) off of a diuretic I've been on for years as of two days before the surgery and although I would expect the effect of that to be nil 10 days out, maybe that's unrealistic.

I did lose weight the first week but then lost nothing for three and a half weeks. I was convinced it wouldn't work for me.
Hang in there put one foot in front of the other and it will happen.
