They found a leak :(

I'll be 6 weeks out on monday 9/17 and today they found a leak during an upper GI. Now i'm Back in the hospital. I have a PICC line and will start TPN tomorrow, and I have a drain in my abdomen that really hurts. I don't know or understand how this happened. I've felt like crap since i've had my surgery but I was finally starting to feel a little bit better. My initial cat scan at one week out showed nothing. I was only eating about two the three ounces of food a day. I was told I could slowly start advancing to solid foods but really i've Ate mostly yogurt and been drinking fluids. Has this happened to anyone else? And if so how long did it take for your stomach to heal?

Oh no! That is horrible! I did not have this issue, but my surgeon did some test before he even closed me up to make sure I had no leaks. I hope they can figure out what caused yours and get you back on your feet asap! Please keep us posted on how you are doing!

Lee86's surgeon probably did a leak test after surgery too. However, occasionally the swelling of the stomach tissues can block a leak, so the leak isn't evident until the swelling goes down.

It's definitely a complication that rarely occurs. Good news is it is fixable. Keep your head up and get well soon.
