Please speak to someone at your surgeon's office about this asap. You've lost a lot of weight. You're body is going through all sorts of changes. Rapid weight loss results in hormonal changes and can make us tired. Plus it's a huge change when we no longer use food as a coping mechanism. Stalls are normal. Feelings of depression are normal. You can get through this. You just need some support.

For hunger, that could be many things. Are you drinking enough? Minimum 62oz/day (maybe you need more). Are you getting in your protein? Are you getting enough sleep? Have you thought about cutting back on carbs? Are you getting some natural source fats in your diet? (try eating a tsp of coconut oil in the morning, it's very satiating).

Are you taking a PPI? The hunger could be acid. Maybe you need to get back on a PPI, or increase your dose.

Please reach out for help. What have you got to lose? You can feel crappy and make some phone calls and get out for appointments. Maybe you'll feel depressed and crappy no matter what. That's okay. Better to feel like crap and still do the things you need to do to take care of yourself, than to feel like crap and do nothing.

It may not feel like it's worth it right now. But try not to take take that feeling literally. You're worth it.

Hi George, I'm 2 years 8 months out VSG and I had a bout with the post op depression too. Seemed to really set in around a month post op and tried to stick around BUT I didn't let it. I found a therapist and talked to her a bit..got put on a different anti depressant and started exercising..the exercises I did were squats (super easy!) and I walked briskly while jammin out to whatever music I wanted to listen to.

It's not easy at all of course. I still have my days. We all do for sure. Get into a therapist if you can. It'll help loads.

As for the plateau..you will do that! Matter of fact seemed that my plateau hit around month three and I was like WHAT is going on!? But what ya do..you up your protein and up tha****er intake. And stay away from junk food or anything that isn't protein really..and bam! You'll start losing again.

Don't give up! I'm praying for you.

Hi George,

thank you for posting this. I've been experiencing the same lows with deep depression. I'm so tired of hurting and feeling sad, crying. It kicked in for me about 2 weeks afo. I'm not sure why. It's really messing with my head. As for the hunger, it gets better. I'm taking my PIP at night and somehow that made all the difference for me. Please hang in there and I will too. Next week I'm contacting my doctor.

If you were really done you would not have posted this. You need help and you know it ... you WANT it. What kind of in person support do you have available at your surgeon's office?

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

George I'm sorry you're struggling. I suffered from some pretty low lows in my second month but it eventually lifted. I agree with the recommendations to see a therapist. You deserve health and happiness and a mental health specialist can help you get there. I wish you well.

Jess

Just another thought.

.....Try adding back some probiotics.. reason:. the gut flora enable the production of serotonin.

A lack of enzymes can add to problems experienced. yugurt, buttermilk can both assist., and there are capsules available..

I am 23 years post WLS, I add a meat tenderizer that has NO MSG , look for active ingredients of papin or bromelin.. These should be used with caution - until your weight loss is near complete, they can slow weight loss. I use daily on eggs...

George, Please understand what you are going thru is NORMAL part of the process. Everyone goes thru this a little differently, with different intensity. You have had a life changing surgery. It is a bit late to be proclaiming "done". Now is the time to try to figure out what the problem is.

I had a gastric surgery that is no longer done 23 years ago. I have returned to within 5 lbs of my origonal goal. The surgery i had includes a pouch, small bowel resection gall bladder removal appendectomy removal of large secttion of colon...and other procedures... as a result of this I have had several side effects and problems and have learned to mitigate them. These things have helped me.

That said ..., If you are taking " Centrum" STOP.!!! It made me ravenously hungry... Does not do everyone this way, but it did ME.....we never could trace what it was in it, that caused the reaction. If a vitamin says compare to centrum I avoid it. it takes about 2 days for it to clear your system and the hunger caused by it's additives to go away.... if no change and you like the vitamin results can add it back in, and if symptoms restart you will have traced the root of the issue.

Sounds like your B vitamins may be very low. If you do not go to see your Surgeon....or can't get in to see them or the nutritionist at that clinic.... try adding 2 cc of liquid vitamin B complex, avail a wal mart or dollar general...in dropper bottle.. put under your tongue and hold for 2 minutes. then swallow. this will hel with cravings, it does take 3 days for it to fully kick in , and it will boost your energy levels as well.

separate foods from fluids. Dense protein fills and makes one feel full. avoid carbs. high protein. look at the rules for post surgical eating... make sure you are following those rules... THis will soon pass.
