Not judging- just posting for information. Study found low carb diets cut lifespan by 4 years, but 1 year longer than a high carb diet. Here is an article

I think that science is eventually going to find out that there is no one "ideal" diet for all people. Hell, there's evidence to suggest that the difference in "naturally thin" people and many obese people may come down to gut bacteria.
I am not anti-carb. I know for me hey need to be a certain kind and a certain amount if I want to lose weight and keep it off. Being obese will also take years off of a life, so that also needs the be factored in.

Sadly, like most studies based on diet, it's based on self-reported data and the accuracy of such is always cir****pect.

Yeah, it's a pretty sketchy study. And I'm not sure if you could apply it to us, even if it were reliable.
I know that I'm living a lot longer, and better, low carb after WLS than I was going to eating more carbs before surgery.

Best part is the study's definition of "low carb" was 40% of calories from carbs. And it's not clear to me that they differentiated between the quality or source of the carbs, either (like fresh fruit vs bread vs candy bars).

Even worse, participants were self-reporting what they'd been eating going back for years. I can't remember what I ate last week (without consulting Cronometer at least). No way could I accurately report what I ate every day last year, let alone 5 years ago.
